    Online Raffles and Text Giving

I'm on the committee of our local vilage carnival and we were discussing the issue of our 'cashless-ish' society and how to raise more money.

We've always run a raffle using physical tickets but were wondering if it would be easier to 'go online', cut costs of printing tickets, writing names/numbers etc. Has anyone any experince of doing this? Is there a way of combining with physical tickets as well? - I guess as long as the ticket has a unique number then that's probably doable?

We're also thinking of a text number for donations, eg Text ACME5 to donate £5 - that sort of thing, along with publishing a QR code to donation page

Again, has anyone any experience of this sort of thing, or any other ideas that have worked.

Thanks in advance - we've got until end of April so hopefully enough time to sort something!!!

You can buy card machines so people can tap to pay I think that would be an easy solution as everything else could remain the same.

There are a quite a few options and at different price points. Most are just a small box that links to your mobile and uses an app.

Thanks Rob, we have some card readers that we use when people have bought tickets in the past but we're wondering if a full online raffle would raise more (and be easier to manage)

I'd say card machines and physical tickets is the way to go.

Anything purely online is far easier to walk away from

If you are selling tickets online you need to apply for a small society's lottery registration with your local council to comply with the Gambling act.

Theres a set up fee of £40 and annual fee of £20 per year thereafter.

Thanks Kris, that's great to know. Will mention that at the next meeting.
