    Seiko 7548-7000 new lease!!

    Hi all

Years ago I bought a Seiko 7548 from a local bootsale, I opened it up to fit a battery only to find there was a screw missing!

I put a new cell in only to find it wouldn't run so it was chucked in a drawer and forgotten about!

Some months ago I got it out again and tried another cell in it and blow me! It started running!!

It seems the cell I tried was a dud!!

Anyhow, The battery sytayed in place and it's currently running fine after initially losing time, The regulator brought it back to decent time keepng averages!

It has a battery clamp screw missing, I'll have to go through my spares box and see what I can find!

I really thought the battery clamp was missing too but the above pic made me realise there was just a screw missing, It probably went flying through a portal in to another dimension when a previous owner changed the battery!!

Nice one John, these are very robust movements, I have a couple without the battery clamp at all, doesn't seem to bother them.
    Great watches.
    Cheers..

    That's handsome John!

I bought a pack of miniature screws from ebay for peanuts that I have yet to use, may be worth you getting some to replace the lost one.

BTW I had a similar event such as yours. Bought a non running quartz watch, tried a new Renata battery - didn't work.

My mate got me to use a cheapo battery from the pound shop - worked fine.

    Always worth trying another cell.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

    Excellent
Great watches and a good save
I’ve had a few down to just this one now
Looks like you’ve been lucky - that coil looks like it’s taken a hit

Yup! Very Lucky!, I actually thought it had been damaged and looked for ages on fleabay, Luckily I decided to try again a few months ago with fresh cells!

I have a 7546 that maybe wasn't so lucky as it won't fire up

    That’s a nice example too
The coils are often damaged while having a battery change
I always try to have a spare movement tucked away

Very nice, I have had three in the past including some mint ones and the black one I have now isn't everyday beater and I absolutely love it. It's running at 4-46 seconds per year which seems quite crazy.

I rarely wear my U1 or pelagos any more as the 7548 is so comfortable, legible and practical. 40 years old now and I hope it makes it through another 40.
