Simon and Garfunkel, America.
And Wish You Were Here, as above.
I listen to and watch these two recordings regularly and never tire of them. Every note seems to just float perfectly. I rate Gilmour as one of the best guitarists of all time. Although the electric versions are brilliant, the sounds he can get from an acoustic guitar are just sublime in my opinion.
Which recordings do you keep returning to?
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
Simon and Garfunkel, America.
And Wish You Were Here, as above.
Say a Little Prayer, Aretha Franklin

Boogie with Stu. Led zeppelin
Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No3:
I have been known to have "The Wall" on a loop, but to be fair WYWH (the album) is also in the top five.
Leonard Cohen can easily be played all day, too. Tom T Hall.
Singles is this at the moment, because of a stupid advert for a game. I find it so much more powerful than the original:
And classic is the 1981 version of this album
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.
I quite like this version as well. It's virtually a capella.

Always turn back to this.

How about this version :-

Kate and Anna McGarrigle, “Talk to me of Mendocino”. It’s a song I’ve known from childhood (my mum had significantly folkie tendencies) and It still packs a monster punch. It’s simple, it’s beautiful, and I could listen to it all day. The video is a bit cheesy, a fan-made montage in tribute to Kate after she died a few years back, but the music is the point.

And then, there’s everybody’s favourite slab-faced, ex-smackhead Aussie songwriter (well, mine, anyway): Nick Cave, with “Papa Won’t Leave You, Henry”. Specifically the version from “Live Seeds”, which captures a little of the Bad Seeds’ monstrous stage presence. Very much a product of its time, and arguably its writer’s preoccupation with religion, arcane imagery and recreational pharmaceuticals, I enjoy the gothic imagery, the weirdness, and the sharp and terrible power of the lyric.

And I’m going to have to stop now because otherwise this will turn into “Preacher’s Top 200 Songs Ever”...

Oops.
Sorry both. What is it you don't like? I think there is a faint trace of vocal software being employed. But the intensity seems real.
I suppose I answered the thread title as opposed to posting something that is critically acclaimed.
It's a bit like those who when asked about their favourite film, say that it's Citizen Kane. When in reality it's Highlander. Or Star Wars.
I do also listen to The Goldberg Variations regularly - I was undecided whether to post that instead. For me, it has to be Glenn Gould. And it has to be a specific recording which has a different tempo. It is the only one I listen to. So I can understand your point of view in regard to other versions of music you love.
Ye olde worlde but the best version ever of the sound of silence.

I really like listening to Karen Carpenter or Abba :)
I mumble , hum and destroy Springsteen’s Thunder Road on a regular basis since 1975 before Mary was Angelina so call it a favourite
I FEEL LIKE I'M DIAGONALLY PARKED IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE
Anathema's Untouchable 1 & 2 from their album 'Weather Systems' a brilliant production.
Beach Boys, ' Good Vibrations' .... way ahead of it's time.
Cream doing Crossroads & Rollin and a tumbling, live at the RAH in 2005
I have several gold medals in curmudgeoness.
No need to apologise.....each to their own and all that! Just one of those things i suppose where you take an instant dislike. I could always grow to like them later much like a lot of early 80s music.
I’ve been trying to narrow it down to two tracks but I just can’t. I listen to such a wide range of stuff that there are just too many to pick from.
It’s all about what I’m digging at the time for me…. I do come back to stuff
I rediscovered this recently…

Edit - I’ve no idea how to share a video on this antiquated platform!
It was a really good track though (Al Barry in case you were interested!)

Appropriately for tonight ..
I have too many to mention really but that Neil Young post reminded me of one in particular - Powderfinger.
I want this played at my funeral:
Don't just do something, sit there. - TNH

I never tire of listening ,and dancing, to this.
Holland-Dozier-Holland at their very best. Ironically after they left Motown.
Don't just do something, sit there. - TNH
I haven’t listened to Talking Heads for ages and then I was watching one of the Guy Garvey-From The Vault episode and it had some footage of them performing Psycho Killer in pokey little venue in New York (I think) which forced me to go and put together a play list. So many superb songs!
4 songs I've listened to thousands of times and never get bored of:
The Waterboys - Whole of the moon
Stiff Little fingers - At the edge
Gary Numan/Tubeway Army - Are 'friends' electric
The Jam - Down in the tube station at midnight
All very different but great tracks!
Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell.
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones.
Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa - Gene Pitney.
Hotel California - Eagles.
All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople.
You want it you got it........ Detroit Emeralds
Elizabethan reggae.....Boris Gardner
Floy joy.....Supremes
Tell me it's just a rumour baby....The Isely brothers
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
True Faith - New Order
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
Hush - Kula Shaker
Thunderstruck - ACDC
Telegraph Road and Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
Don’t You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
Party Fears Two - The Assiciates

Have different spells where I listen to the same thing over and over but Steely Dan is what I could take to a desert island without being able to listen to anything else
Excellent choice.
To be honest, I can't think of one song that I can listen to over and over again and NEVER tire of.
One that I find myself humming very often, though, is Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega.
Some good choices there, although I'd take Wild Horses by the Stones, personally.
I find it quite amusing that many people have read Song as Album or even Artist! I'm sure there are plenty of artists or albums we could listen to on near-permanent repeat, but a single song? That WOULD be something special to not grow tiresome.
