I preordered with Jura months ago. Arriving August apparently.
If it is as nice as the pictures, I will have to brake my one watch <=40mm rule :)
I missed this among all the other announcements in March, but it is due next month:
It looks to be very close to the original '78 tuna, the first 600m quartz saturation dive watch. The re-issue is uprated to 1000m and the shroud is now zirconia ceramic, 7 times harder than the original.
Size is 49.4×49.4×15.3mm and contains the 7C46 movement. Limited to 1978 pieces.
And seemingly, no Prospex "X"!

Is the 7C46 movement any good. From what I understand it was designed for the Tuna?
I’m pretty sure the example on the Jura website has the unnecessary Prospex X.
Super combo. Titanium, steel and ceramics. Great that it’s quartz too.

This is the one I’m looking at. It isn’t cheap.
Oh thats the other LE Tuna. The modern recreation version.
Not long left. Do you think the UK release will have kanji day wheel?
Think Jura have removed the Golden Tuna page. Sold out.

These guys are worth a look if your in the UK - seem to get stock well before Jura, and usually good for between 10-20 percent discount on the higher value stuff.
I got a Baby Blue MM from them this week, Jura not getting stock until September (according to their site)
https://www.watcho.co.uk/watches/sei...o-prospex.html
Are they going to be available from the 10th in Japan?
Jura told me mid September delivery. Sitting on a pile of Avios and now very tempted to go to Tokyo to buy in person :). Difference in price should cover the tax element of the ticket.
OP, do you think they will be readily available in ADs from Thursday onwards? Seriously thinking to use my avios and go.
Mate if you are serious about travelling far to get one I can get a quote from a Chiang Mai AD I use in Thailand? For example the SLA025 was £5k RRP in UK but they were selling it at £3500 as a repeat customer
So I reckon this would be around £1900 in Thailand as long as it’s not limited to a crazy low number of pieces

As soon as I find a companion to chip in for hotel and railway pass :)
Just returned from a few weeks away, sorry for late reply. Took the exact flight you are interested in too, regrettably seated a little further aft
The SBBN040 is released on the 10th (Friday) here. Showing as pre-orderable on some sites, with no discount. Some enterprising types are advertising their pre-order for sale elsewhere, which suggests demand might be high.
I will have a look on Friday at the usual places, assuming I'm not too inconvenienced by the imminent arrival of Cat 2 Typhoon Shanshan. If I only I had a watch that could take such a beating.
Oh the weather was the one thing I didn’t care to check.... Can’t find a travel companion anyway.
Seiya has one (SBBN040), but sold out, he always takes great photo's. Mines on it's way, not looking forward to the customs bill, but hopefully overall cheaper than a UK/EU sourced (S23626J1)
It's still available in Tokyo in some shops. I tried it at one (Wako, in the original Seiko building) in Ginza today...
(Ignore the usual perspective issue from the wide-angle iPhone lens close up, it is not as giant as it looks there next to my quivering Explorer II!)
My first impressions?
The SBBN040 is lighter than you think, being titanium and ceramic. But solid. So very solid. I'm certain this one could far exceed its 1000m depth. It feels permanent, like some kind of ancient monolith. The finish is flawless. The chapter ring is aligned. The seconds hand hit all the markers. I like the classic style hands, black-on-white date, discreet limited-edition text on the (one-piece) caseback and no Prospex logo. The strap is the softer one. The box is the usual black thing, no song and dance here. If I bought one (I didn't, but only because I already have "my" Tuna) I'd wear it. It is too good for keeping in a safe. A decent price really, considering the materials, design, build quality and Seiko dive watch history.
Whomever designed this one knew their history, and their market. It's a fantastically well-executed piece.
If you like this sort of thing, and this is representative, I cannot think that you will be disappointed in any way.
Thanks for info. Exactly the way I imagined it. Did you buy?
This shows how overbuilt these watches are watchesbysjx.com/2015/06/seiko-marinemaster-tuna-diver-survives-pacific-ocean-plunge-to-depth-of-4299-metres.html
The SBBN013 (same as this golden tuna but black) continued to function to over 3000 metres, albeit with a deformed case back.
Over-engineering is always a cool thing.
Parcel Force - A flipping week to work out the charges and still no closer
Your parcel is currently with the customs authorities and is being assessed for import duties and local taxes. These will be notified to the addressee and usually need to be paid prior to the parcel being delivered.

I was hoping it wears smaller tbh...
How big is your wrist? This might make me stick to the solar golden Tuna...
Never measured it really. On the big side though.
OP, do you know if the case is titanium nitride coated like the original Golden Tuna, or just gold colour coating?
Seiko Japan confirmed:
Thank you very much for the inquiry about our watch SBBN040.
We confirmed that the case of SBBN040 is titanium nitride-coated, instead of gold-plated.
It's not exactly the same as the original, but same type of nitride-coated material.

Thanks for that - I noticed some English language sites were (google?) translating the spec as gold plated and it seemed a bit odd!
Yes, there was no mention of TiN in any of the official Seiko pages. Thought they’ve just used similar colour PVD instead.
Sod my silly one watch <40mm rule. Keeping it forever! Bezel is about 41.5mm so doesn’t really feel like a 50mm puck.

I sent another message to Seiko Japan about hands material. Brass apparently:
Thank you very much for the question.
We’d like to confirm the materials used for SBBN040 as follows.
Hands: Brass
Mid-case: Titanium
Case back: Titanium
Outer-case: Ceramic
Bezel: Stainless steel
Crown: Titanium
Surprising! I assumed the same material as the crown etc.
