So shocked and Very sad RIP Ray
Such sad news, a great player. RIP Butch
So shocked and Very sad RIP Ray
I'm so shocked. I listen to him all the time on Talk Sport.
RIP. So sad.
Sad news. It was a pleasure to watch him play for my team, the mighty Glasgow Rangers.
He was a great player and by all accounts a gentleman too. Very well respected in the game. A great loss.
I’ll remember his time at the den and the good nature he showed when some of the old lags started referring to him as uncle fester. You’ll be missed Ray!
Very sad news. 61 is still no age to die.
Excellent person all round and one of the few voices in the world of football worth listening to.
RIP Butch.
Really was praying he would pull through. RIP Ray a great honest professional.
RIP Butch!
Very sad news. RIP Butch
What a shame he's gone, and so young too, I enjoyed his input. Puts all the piffle on this forum into perspective.

A true gentleman and one of my favourite players despite playing for Rangers.
Very sad news and a lovely tribute in TalkSport this arvo.
Cultured footballer in the Trevor Brooking mould.
Nice commentary in the Tango advert back in the day.
A troubled few years but always seemed a genuine guy.
Only six years older than me :( Time to clean up my diet and exercise more.
Those photos above of the AC Milan tribute are great, quite touching.
As others have already said, it's a sad loss - even though he had his troubles in recent years, he always appeared to be an urbane, articulate & likable fellow. And what a career he had.
I was reading last night that even after he was sacked by Villa, he would still call Jack Grealish afterwards to offer his advice & tips. Speaks volumes about the man. RIP.
Very sad news.
One of the sport’s true characters, and, by all accounts a true gentleman.
RIP Butch

One of London football finest talents, and a gentleman to boot, a sad loss and RIP from a Gooner
The death of anyone is sad, and I enjoyed listening to Ray on the radio. He undoubtably had a lot of time for others. He has a large family and they will be in a bad place.
However... quite a lot of hyperbole going around largely because he had many media connections. He wasn’t really a legend was he? Good footballer but generally a very safe one that often infuriated fans. I also struggle with the use of the term ‘role model’ to someone who risked the lives of innocent families by getting caught driving drunk not once, nor twice but three times. Indicating these were not the only three times...
There seems to be an outpouring of social media grief and bestowing of legendary status to most famous people that pop their clogs. Like I say a desperately sad day for his family but the upgrading I just don’t see.
