You're next to soho... Not a bad place to start
Have London's most spectacular piss at the shard... Lunch at the shard wasn't too expensive and pretty good
I know London's massive but I'm embarrassed to say that this will be second ever visit!!
I'm staying leicester square and so far all I've come up with is the comedy store.
It's just me and a mate going and arrive on the Friday and train back on the Sunday.
Is there anything that's a must, places to avoid, good places to eat/drink around where were staying?
Any help greatly appreciated :))

Gauchos do a pretty decent steak

Bodeans if your near Soho and not a veggie and manage to get in.
Yum

My son highly recommends this
http://www.gazrockin.com/#!gass-rockin-blues/c10fk ignore only Thursdays
Soho in general, The Shard and South Bank area, Borough market
This is a canny one for a quick bite if your round st james area.
http://www.fuzzysgrub.co.uk/pages/menu/lunch.php#
First time ever I have had a full roast dinner with all trimmings in a sandwich.
Cafe Pacifico in Covent garden - http://www.cafepacifico-laperla.com/mobilepac.html
Awesome for Mexican and good atmosphere in the evenings.
Also, what about doing a Jack the Ripper tour? http://www.jack-the-ripper-tour.com
Lastly, another touristy thing but if it is only your second visit, might be worth a shot:

Nah, it's a boring place, nothing to do...
Hard to know where to start! Leicester Square and that whole area is a massive tourist trap, but I guess you're a tourist!!
Porterhouse in Maiden Lane, Covent Garden is an excellent pub. While you're there, Austin Kaye on The Strand has a good selection of used watches... Just don't do the second after the first...
Borough Market is worth a look, and loads of great pubs. Short ride on the underground, slightly off the beaten track.
Later on, the 100 club on Oxford Street is pretty cool (jazz.... nice!), depending what's on.
I'm a sales rep and I end up doing courses up and down the country, I can spend a week in a city but not see anything, so my advice do a bus tour, duck tourers good fun but a basic bus tour shows more and you can jump on and off.
I'd get bus tour down to Tower of London, lunch at Bodeans Tower Hill, then boat up to London Eye, if it's raining hit the aquarium if not do the eye then jump back on the bus tour.
Book in advance online you save a fortune.
I've done the ripper tour excellent time we had.
If I can remember we started the tour at Tower tube station and it was £5 a head then, interesting to see what it is now.
The guides were actors and actresses and made the whole experience great.
I'd do it again like a shot!
If you're looking for decent food Try the New World Chinese in China town right near L square.
Good luck
Porters Pies in Covent Garden is great for a good solid carb hit!
Id go for the Steak and Kidney pudding and chips, well on my cheat day I would!
Thanks lads!! I'm taking notes :)
I know that if we don't have a plan we will be stood around scratching our heads!
Lov London threads and always learn something new.
This was our last day out

Have a great time buddy

As a watch forum (know not watch talk) but new bond st and burlington arcade will give you some decent eye candy if not laughable pricing.
General sauntering from the market along southbank to Tate Modern is an easy way to while away time with some pubs and street food along the way.
General eating you are spoilt, it is London after all, so more than a bit of choice and some fantastic recommendations already for your area.
Any preferences on what to do, might help recommendations?
Visit http://londonist.com/category/weekend and see what takes your fancy.
There's always something to do here - and most of the time, it needn't cost an arm and a leg.
Have fun.
There's some great pop-up food places off of Brick Lane, plus a few of the best value curry houses in London.
For me, though, the best food is in an old department store (at least, that's what I think it must have been) on Brick Lane or in the Boiler House food hall. Great value and atmosphere and over 30 stalls to choose from. I'm no veggie (by a long way), but loved the Ethiopian vegetarian stall so much I went back twice!
Definitely agree with the Borough Market suggestion... enjoy a camel burger for lunch! And from there its only a few minutes walk to a few galleries or such.
If you can catch a late train then I suggest that you try the Comedy Store on the Sunday night. Sunday (and Wednesday, I think) are impro nights a la Who's Line Is It Anyway? and are usually pee your pants funny, Paul Merton is a regular on a Sunday as well as Richard Vranch, you might recognise one or two others as well. Book in advance if you can, they usually keep a few tickets back at the door but you'll have to get there and queue a good hour or so before the doors open to have any chance of getting them. The website should tell you who's on and when, look up the Comedy Store Players.
For some alternative fun try http://www.bouncepingpong.com/ in Holborn, great fun after a couple of shandies and the totty's not too shabby either
The Queen Of Hoxton
RIAC
Do not visit the Shard. Duck and Waffle, up the Heron Tower is just as good and it's open 24 hours. It's a short stumble from Liverpool St station and a great place for breakfast. It's not cheap, but I'd say it was more fun than Aqua Shard.
Soho is full of excellent places to eat and drink.
Pubs: Dog and Duck or the French House.
Cocktails: Talented Mr Fox (One Leicester Sq), ECC, Opium, Mark's Bar @ Hix
Food: Koya for udon, Tonkotsu or Bone Daddies or Shoryu Ramen for ramen, Polpo / Spuntino / Polpetto, Cay Tre, Pitt Cue Co
Depending who makes it through to the third-place playoff, De Hems could be interesting.

And for something different what about a little visit to Camden town and its market? And if you're there on a Sunday night and you're into live music, the Blues Kitchen has a great open mic night where some really good musicians turn up to jam with each other.
Try the Griffin in Shoreditch
Looks like the queen vic inside but has some other attractions ;-) its owned by the people that own the Brown's gentlemans clubs
Go for drinks at Vertigo 24, spectacular views but you MUST book in advance , they're on the web.
A bit more interesting IMO and probably a lot cheaper...
A nice trip around HMS Belfast, over the river to the Tower of London finishing up at Manzes pie and mash shop on tower bridge road (been there 100 years and far cheaper than many posh eateries where you don't get much grub.) No need to book either. Not open Sundays though.
Go west along the embankment (I'd get a cab) to the London eye and if you still want more cross Westminster bridge and jump on a boat trip to Greenwich to see the Cutty Sark.
Cheers,
Neil.
If you like burgers, Honest Burger on Meard St, just off Wardour St in Soho is excellent.
If you like Mexican, Wahaca on Wardour St is excellent.
If you like BBQ, Pitt Cue Co just off Carnaby St is excellent (and better than Bodeans IMO)
Burlington Arcade is great for window shopping, but keep your wallet in your pocket ;)
Thanks lads, all noted!!
I've booked the comedy store for the Saturday night so far!!
Another vote to get to get the river taxi (the slow one not the clipper) to Greenwich.
Cutty Sark, Maritime Museum and the Greenwich Observatory all within a few minutes walk plus it's a nice place with some decent pubs.
We got on at the Tower of London, went upriver to Westminster and traveled back past the Tower and Bridge to Greenwich.
Has no-one mentioned the Flying Scotsman in Caledonia Road yet?

Jim.
Make sure you have travel cards, you will go everywhere on the tube / red buses.
As has been said Borough Market is always good, even if you don't buy your groceries there will be plenty of grub to buy for lunch. Closest / easiest tube is London Bridge.
I love a stroll down Bond Street, especially seeing the goods in the window of Marcus that cost more than a house. Lots of little arcades to try too such as the Burlington Arcade, Piccadilly Arcade etc.
Have breakfast one day at the Wolseley.
Don't go to the City / Liverpool Street / east London at the weekend. Very quiet, so quiet that the large M&S on Fenchurch Street doesn't even open on Saturdays!!!!!!!!!
Avoid Oxford Street, nothing on it except Debenhams and John Lewis.
Soho and Covent Garden are the places to be really, lots of cool bars / pubs. You don't really even need recommendations there, just wander in to the first place you see and it will be decent enough if it isn't on the main road.
Thanks for the travel card tip :)
Is it better to buy these in advance ? What do I buy ? 2 day unlimited use ticket ?
Beware of pickpockets in Covent Garden

There's an Egyptian Mummies exhibition at the British Museum but you'd need to book tickets

Ships, Clocks and Stars starts today at the National Maritime Museum. Harrison's H1-5 pieces are on show.
Ok digging this up as up as my wife has booked me a few days away to London for my 40th coming Thursday. Were staying in South Kensington so looking for nice veggie friendly places to eat in that area.
Cheers
