Proper wrestlers

You have taken me back to the very early seventies, watching the wrestling on Saturday evenings with my Granny. She was outraged at the injustice, when the "good guy" lost and the villain won, but she loved it! I remember McManus and the blonde wrestler 2nd from the left, who was in the terminology of those days, a "pansy" but was also a really nasty piece of work. Even at the age of 8 or so I could tell it was fixed, but I couldn't convince my granny of that. :)
Substitute Grand-dad for Granny and I have similar memories.
I too watched it with my grandmother who loved it - becoming very animated especially when Mick McManus made an appearance. "Pull his ears!" she would shout "he doesn't like that!"
The blond one is Adrian Street. His gimmick was flouncing around like a pansy (acceptable term in the 70's) in reality like the rest of them he was as hard as nails. He went on to wrestle in America into his early 70's and according to Google now runs a wrestling costume business there.
I always liked to watch Les Kellet, who played the punch drunk clown much of the time only to land the killer move at a critical time. Again, reputed to be a real hard man despite his village idiot persona in the ring.
They don't make entertainers like these guys anymore.
I saw a picture of Les Kellet with a donkey in a headlock once. Made me laugh.

As a former draftsman, I used to use these old ink rubbers as a means of polishing up my tracing film after scratching out a drafting pen mistake. I was quite late in adopting AutoCAD; going into a shop and asking the assistant "if they had any abrasive rubbers" was often met with mirth and amusement.
