Like me you're an old fart, once upon a time watches were promoted by adventurers, divers and explorers, times change. 😕

Official quote - Lady Gaga is a global, leading fashion icon, mindful of everything she wears. She has turned celebrity into a comprehensive art form. Her outfit is a powerful message, a performance art in its own right. Every accessory, however outlandish tells the story. And her choice of a watch? The Tudor Black Bay. A tool watch rugged enough for the rigours of her high energy performance style, and elegant enough to complement her fashion sense.

    Excellent.
It's refreshing to see Tudor going a bit avant garde and it makes a change from tepid ambassadors.

    Good on them.

My question is why Lady Gaga should want/need to become a brand 'ambassador' ? After all, I'm sure she's not short of a bob or two as it is....

As a fan of older Tudors in particular (the watches not the Welsh-English family) I can see why this might get them sales in a younger market. Whether you like her or not, it's difficult to argue she's not different and talented. Tudor need to differentiate themselves so I think this is a good bold move generally (TZ oldies of which I'm one might think differently).

    Nice signing.

One of Tudors biggest problems has been brand recognition.
Beckham and Gaga, regardless of anyones opinion of them, will help this - if used properly - and who knows marketing better than rolex?

Always a risky thing to do. Especially with a non angelic person.

Tudor in my mind represent traditional values and heritage. Not something that i would associate with Lady Gaga.

They may live to regret this.

Perhaps, but "traditional values and heritage" aren't selling Tudor watches, at least in the UK, bar their few most popular models. Associating the brand with some of the famous people on the planet doesn't seem like a dumb move.

Tudor doesn't seem to be getting the best publicity out there, first they get the 'poor mans rolex' name and then they decide to associate themselves with Lady Gaga, which is not the perfect association to a luxury watch...

To be fair I think it's a good move

Tudor seem to be marketing themselves as the edgy side of Rolex of sorts

Multi coloured NATO straps, variety of colours, pvd coatings, bronze cases etc

    I think gaga suits

(All in my opinion of course)

And my wife loves lady gaga but hates watches so I can see an "in" of some sorts in terms of me buying a Tudor for her and then wearing it myself

They have lost me as a potential customer with this. So are they going for the high disposable income female lady gaga sports watch fan, that's quite niche, she is "cool and edgy" though, good luck

With her and Beckham you can see their demographic. Hats off to them for going for a youngish market.

Rolex has the newman, batman, hulk etc...tudor has the gaga.in 20-30 years time will anyone remember this person? No offence but for older folk such as myself (46) I think this is a big negative for the brand.they are selling this watch on it's ability to withstand "vigorous" dancing...a divers watch!

It was an ad in the Reader's Digest featuring Reinhold Messner in the late 70s that lead to me buying my first Rolex.

Does this mean that we will see prices rise I wonder? I always viewed Tudor as rolex's entry level brand so have always been a bit put off by the price tags anyway. Maybe I am viewing them wrong?

yeah...but don't forget 99.9999% of Lady Gaga fans can't afford a Tudor, no matter how edgy and cool her image might be. Will those who can actually afford one think that Lady Gaga is an icon to be influenced by, given that most expensive watches are bought by rich middle aged men??? Also, I can't see much of her 'Street Cred' (as we used to say) remaining with fans if she's promoting $x,000 luxury watches.....

Can l just point out that neither Batman nor The Hulk have ever been brand ambassadors for, or worn rolex - mostly because they aren't real...

They are just (silly?) nicknames given to two watch models by fans.

Newman is slightly different, in that he existed in real life and wore a rolex...

A couple of years ago i was in Lecce in Puglia for the evening. On the way to dinner i noted that the staff in the highish end watch shop on the main shopping street were busy taking their stock out of the window after closing. On the way back i noticed that they hadn't bothered with the Tudors.

So much for the people claiming they don't care much about brand ambassadors etc.

I don't care for brand ambassadors per se in that they don't influence me to buy a watch but when in my opinion a person is picked which I struggle to understand why and I believe acts negatively on the brand especially when I own the specific watch then it grates...

Wanna know who's richer than rich middle aged men?

    Rich gay men.

Which one of the two do you think gaga has icon status with?

Perhaps I will have a closer look at them. I still wonder if having these brand ambassador's on board will raise there pricing though.
