    16610LV's - they're like buses...

You wait and you wait and they just don't seem to appear, but eventually they do turn up, two at a time...

Thanks to two members of the TZ fraternity I am now proud owner of not one, but two 16610LVs.

The one on the left is a Z serial and is still in its stickers as it left Rolex many years ago. The one on the right is a very early F-serial which was the original run of them and although it is currently wearing a beater bezel I have its immaculate flat 4 bezel tucked away safely along with the original marketing package. Both are full sets and non-engraved rehaut. What a lucky boy I am...

Congrats ! I am very happy with mine; think this is the best looking modern Sub with the combination of classic case and maxi dial.

Congratulations. I still have two myself :)

Y serial was the first issue, then later in 2003 some F serials were released- but most F's are 2004/2005.

The best Submariner ever imo :)

I like the solid end links, the maxi dial, the old style svelte(er) case, but never liked the bezel. As tastes have changed as I've gotten older, I'm getting to the stage where I think I need one.
The perfect version would be the anniversary model, but with a black bezel.
Hang on........... having thought about it, all I really need is a maxi dial fitting to mine.......................... hmm food for thought

    Nice one Cliff

I love these for their looks, and made ever sweeter by the way they never lose money, but I can't help but feel these ones are for the safe, and a 116610LVc Hulk is the daily wearer, even if just for the Glidelock bracelet...

I recently spotted a kermit on the wrist of an auctioneer - talk about beater, it had clearly had a fight with an angle grinder, cement mixer, washing machine, and pneumatic drill on the same day. Close to unrecognisable but for the flash of scraped green bezel, so I guess some do use them properly

Thanks all. It was a 16610LV (subsequently nicked in a robbery) that really kicked of my watch obsession, so they hold a special place in my heart!

Going based on this article over on VRF my F's serial number (F02XXXX) puts it in the absolute first run (the article may or may not be correct of course)

The article (correctly) says the Y Serial was the first run. F was next.

I was just moaning about these the other day over coffee. Cannot believe how they've rocketed recently.
    Remember the 2.8 days!

    Nice stash there cm :)

No doubt that Y was the first serial letter used but an early F serial is clearly considered first run (i.e. 2003 anniversary year watch) if you look at the table.

Yep, bought my first one at £3,280 I believe. Urrrrghhh...

I bought my first 10 of them for less than the £2650 UK RRP!! I sold the first Y serial from my AD to a used dealer for around £3250 - I should have kept it, but hey at the time I wanted the money for other things. I think I have had more LV's than any other watch model.
It's just a matter of time...

    Nice pair. And, well done.
Somehow the LV leaves me cold while I love the hulk.

Just put a black bezel insert on it, and it comes alive as the best Sub ever made :)

Sorry, yes I think we mean the same thing. The Y serial came before the F serial, but both were "first run"

Tried it and looked very familiar:-)
Wondered why they didn't make it with a black bezel in the first place😄

A 16610LV is the only watch on my shopping list. My problem is that I keep buying buying other stuff (house, car, having a baby) that eats into my watch funds.
Must be better at prioritizing in the future ;-)

And please don't put on a black bezel, then it wouldn't be a LV anymore.

Can`t help but smile at the way folks get so obsessed with the minor detail differences on these.

I turned a brand new one down at £3200 just before they stopped making 'em......reason I turned it down was simple, I don't like the green bezel, although the maxi dial and hands was always an improvement over the 16610. In hindsight I wish I`d bought it and kept it, from an investment point it was always likely to make sense, but I would've ended up with a black bezel insert and that somewhat defeats the object of the watch.

The 16610 (and the LV) are so much nicer than the later versions IMO, Rolex spoilt the Sub when they altered the case design.

IMO they made it the perfect watch.

Shows how we all view things differently.

Yeah, I put one of my previous LVs on a black bezel and it doesn't really do it for me either...
Good to have the option though.

The Flat 4 16610LV's are becoming more and more elusive and expensive. They seem to have rocketed in the last year or so.

I'm not quite so sure. I've had over 5 lvs including flat fours, always sold them in the end, they aren't quite as rare as one would imagine. Look hard enough and they are about. What a dealer asks for one and what they get are two different things. Last flat 4 I had, I sold for about £6k iirc. That was about 3 years ago. What's it worth today? £6500? £7k? Hardly skyrocketed. Unless there £10k+ nowadays? Maybe I'm out of touch...
