Slow West is excellent. Steadily paced and beautifully shot. Highly recommended.
Creed is also very good, and the best thing Stallone's done since Cop Land (which is also a very good film, and I think that I should watch it again).

All is lost is a good film and Redford is wearing a seiko skx009 on a blue nato! 😊
Funny how people see things differently, I thought the Revenant was a croc of s@£t, story line obviously predictable, as are most films.
One big long advert for the Canadian tourist board. I thought the statement on the end credits along the lines of 'This film helped employ 1500 Canadian jobs' summed it up perfectly. Nothing against Canada at all, as I'm an outdoor type of person and the locations would be my idea of heaven.
The scenery in the film is stunning and beautiful, but the filmed bored me. The trailer is the best thing about it.
I'm getting old and grumpy :-(
I'm going to watch Moneyball later tonight as it's been recommended to me as part of our degree research ! Stastics in sport and research methods.

Watched this last night on your recommendation - very much enjoyed it, though I thought the narrative was a little confusing at times, and they could have madebetter use of "infographics" to show exactly what was happenening to who and where, to give the watcher a better perspective. Despite that, it was good!
I also thought that Revenant was a let down.
The cinematography was great, but agree that the storyline and film overall were really not very good at all.
Shame, as I was hoping for better but was left disappointed.
I watched the whole documentary of this again last night.. below is the edited "jump" what a great feat everytime you watch it frightning but beautiful.......
Brad Pitt, tank warfare at the latter stages of WW2. Very, very good. Highly recommended.
I watched Spectre recently and really enjoyed it, much better than Skyfall IMO
Some great recommendations in here. Will keep me busy for long, long overdue quiet weekend!
We've watched a few things over the last couple of weeks
Firstly, many thanks to Adrian for the loan of his copy of In the Fog. A very sparse film set and filmed in Belarus/White Russia during WWII. Nice to watch a war movie with so little action and quite a reduced plot.

I watched Beijing Bicycle for the first time last week having missed it a couple of times over the years. An enjoyable film about a stolen bicycle - this in itself is remarkable as none of the characters are particularly exemplary and the two male principals are fairly infuriating (one a spoilt brat and the other a fairly simple country bumpkin). Despite being made in 2001 I suspect that it portrays a city that has changed immeasurably.

The pick of the bunch has been The Secret in Their Eyes; an Argentinian film about a violent murder during the time of the generals that is re-opened by a novelist/jurist. Really well written characters, fantastic performances by the main actors and a really sympathetic cinematography.

I shall also look out for anything starring Soledad Villamil in the future .
Finally we finally caught up with Babel which is an interesting and very well crafted observation on events and their unintended consequences. The one question I still have about this film is how somebody can put Harriet Walter in a role where she has, perhaps, three lines. I can only imagine that the money was too good to turn down.

I watched Everest on the train the other day... convinced me (as if I needed it) to NEVER attempt anything like that in my life.
Good film though
Was keen to see this on the big screen, by my local multiplex with who I have a monthly pass wouldnt screen it, and I dont fancy paying £9 + £3 parking to go to the next town to watch it. Yes, I am tight! So, looking forwards to the DVD coming out... and then waiting 6 months to get it cheaper on eBay ;-p
I loved it, one thing everyone who's seen it will agree it's a right blood bath!
This popped up on Netflix - about 45 mins in (at Jack Rabbit Slim's diner) - had forgotten how good it was!
Must be 10 or 15 years since I last saw it.
Recently saw Revenant and Bridge of Spies. Enjoyed both, but sound system of Cinema for Revenant was awful. Looking forward to Spotlight.
The Stanford Prison Experiment, true story set in the 1970's , very intense !

Enjoyed the krays film legend tonight
Just watched concussion and thought it was really good.
I know what you mean, my taste in food has changed over the years as well as other things.
I'm 44 now and distinctly remember hating Phil Collins & in particular 'Something happened on the way to heaven' when it came out about 25 years ago. Now when I hear it I really like it and don't find Phil anywhere near as annoying as way back then ... maybe a theme for a separate thread !
Watched Chef on Netflix last night. Very enjoyable, easy viewing. Probably best not to watch it on an empty stomach though!

Saw Creed last night and really enjoyed it. Best Stallone film since Escape to Victory!
Elite Squad - very good Brazilian movie about elite police squad in Rio.
The Revenant !! it was incredibly entertaining.
Watched Black Mass last night, good story but storyline jumped about a bit. Definitely worth a watch though.
The Big Short - very disappointing!
Just back from this. Night & day between the very average film and the incredible book it is based upon.
It's a subject I am very interested and well read on, so perhaps I had higher expectations than the average viewer.
Margin Call remains the outstanding highlight in this genre.
