it was a little bit chilly this morning when i woke ,thought to myself i could do with a pair of slippers for winter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
age creeps up on you ,i never thought i would hear myself say that,my grandad wore ''slippers'' as does my 77 year old dad but me ,never never
but i think i will be buying a pair ,where do the years go,so it will be off to john lewis, clarkes maybe for some sensible shopping

I bought some a while back and they didn't last long at all. I just stick on some thick socks now, much easier to wash.

Try living up here, as it was 1C the other night - yes, in the middle of August!
Sod the slippers, we are getting a solid fuel stove/log burner fitted

I bought a flat cap last year at the age of 48 to keep the heat in through my thinning hair, it comes to us all in the end.
Love my warm slippers in the winter....now I do feel old!

You're not old until you go to M&S and buy brown slippers and then moan about everything when you get home.

I've been wearing mule sheepskin slippers since my mid-20s! Seem to always live in older colder character properties though.

Ive been wearing slippers since my early 30's

There are few things worse than cold feet

I dont give a stuff what they look like

  11. #11
I'm a regular slipper wearer but not because of the cold,I've not got any carpets downstairs and it kills my feet especially when I've been on them all day

  12. #12
Once you start wearing slippers you may as well add a string vest, velcro shoes and a tartan dressing gown. They'll soon get pretty stinky too.

Sound policy. Slippers are where its at.

Church's leather lined ones will last for years. My spares are Herrings suede driving shoes

(I was middle aged in my early teens..)

Want to save money on slippers?
Just put your socks on in the morning, or leave them on in the evening!

Nothing wrong with decent quality comfortable slippers, it is an indicator of a man who is at peace with himself!

Big socks, thickness adjusted according to need. A pair of Birkenstocks to hand if I need to nip outside. That’s outside in the back garden of course, not outside in public. Not with that combo :)

Nothing wrong with Slippers, mine are South African sheep skin ankle boots. So much better than the Uggs I used to have.

however what makes me feel old is

    a) the need to letch at teenage girls in short shorts
    b) failing eye sight
    c) nodding off in front of the telly
    d) the fact that I am turning into my Dad - and can even recognise it myself.
    E) becoming quite knowledgeable about pensions.

Oh yes - failing to find most "comedy" on BBC 3 humorous - let alone funny.

I could go on, ...... and on..............and on.

Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Again on the feeling old topic...

The first time a work colleague tells you their parents are about your age.

Happened to me with a young graduate last week, felt like I was punched !

I'm tempted by the flat caps but not sure I can pull it off...I'm only 32....

I think the real sign of "old" is when you start taking your slippers to their peoples houses and change into them when you're there, my I laws do this every time they come over and it cracks me up.

  27. #27
I've literally been wearing them since I was a toddler! Once you get into the routine of changing into them whenever you are home, you can't stop!

just hit 40 - and been wearing grandad slippers in winter since I were a wee lad

age creeping up on me is - having most of my body ache and feel as if I've been wrestling someone after changing the front brake pads on my renault

You find out why they call them slippers if you spend a couple of hours in A&E. See all the elderly folk who have fallen over in them!

been wearing slippers for years, when you have a house like a rabbit warren with lots of corners and kids in the house, they've saved a few stubbed toes.

I think someone has already mentioned it - slippers never last. Just go with some good, thick Barbour socks.

I'm no spring chicken but for me no slippers, as soon as I get home it's shoes and socks off...can't beat it. When it's a cold winter's night and you have the log fire going and you're barefoot and in a t-shirt it's sheer luxury...mind you normally my wife will be in slippers and fleece...

Yes. This I fully resonate with. Used to hate the sight of most of them 10 years ago aswell.

Yeah, obviously that did cross my mind, but he is much younger than when I knew his mum. Phew.

Realising it right now after yesterday evening, my son emptied 4 drop bags of grade one ballast over the front garden in preparation for a parking place. I obviously helped by spreading it with a rake. He's jumped out of bed whereas I'm walking down the the stairs like I've just got off a horse....bloody kids.

I don't get the current fashion for pointy shoes that are designed to damage your toes and look ugly anyway. No, I didn't get winkle pickers back then either.

When it comes to wearing comfortable foot wear about the house then style does not come into it as far as I am concerned. I don't give a monkeys what others would think about what I am wearing. Comfort is all.

Why not have both style and comfort?

I'm on my fourth pair, the wife's on her third pair.

There's only so much you can do with slippers?
Given the constraints of designing something fluffy and comfy that doesn't look like something your grandad would wear, I think they look pretty cool.
