Very pretty, really like the chunky indices.
Met Jon (bristolboozer) today and picked up this chunk of funky 70's loveliness :) . Having sold of a few to fund some bigger purchases this crops up for sale and on my on my birthday too. Well what's a boy to do? Buy it, that's what :D ! Many thanks to Jon for deciding to part with it.
I've had a couple of Geneve MQ's before but the case size and finish on this and my Constellation seems far superior and the bracelets are lovely, so 70's I'm getting the urge to buy a velour safari suit and start wearing a cravat :D.
Anyhow I'll let the pics do the talking before I embarrass myself (yet again).
A bit of a DIY repair going on here but it''s neatly done and seems very solid
And more of that beautiful linen dial and deep indices, got to love a bit of blue .
Anyone know the case reference for this? I've tried removing the caseback screws but they've been screwed in by a gorilla and I'd hate to muller them. I'll give it another go tomorrow. It ideally needs a new crystal and I might replace the German day wheel.
Cheers,
Gary
P.S. No more for me for a while, I've bought 5 in the last month and really must stop now, honest! So please, stop tempting me.
Very pretty, really like the chunky indices.
Just found the case ref. numbers :) .
Cheers,
Gary
Wrap some cotton wool on a matchstick and put a tad of acetone on the screws before trying to undo them.Originally Posted by Omegary

Got this back off my watch guy on Friday, it's had a new crystal and a case and bracelet refinish, so I thought I'd refresh this post with some new pics. I have to say I think he's done a brilliant job, admittedly it was in fairly good condition but now it looks like new :).
For anyone interested the ref for this model is 196.0023 and it houses a calibre 1310. The bracelet is - the now unfortunately obsolete - 1210/202. A real shame you can't get these anymore, they're such a comfy bracelet with serious heft.
A few pics.
Cheers,
Gary
Looking very tasty Gary, very worth of your collection
Very pretty indeed.
Again such a beautiful watch, thatīs gonna be on my list. I do want a rectangular watch and that is also pretty chunky which is nice. Also a big plus for the price range which seems very fair. Iīll guess I just have to start saving.... and then start the hunt :P
Agree on the bracelet, a work of art. Very nice indeed
Another beautiful Omega addition Gary, wear and enjoy....
Great piece, and pics to match!
Cheers,
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
I love that! Funky!! 8)
Absolutely fantastic!
Great pictures and interesting information as I am about to pick one up myself, not in as good a shape as yours though and it's got the leather+deployment buckle. It turns out I have the 1210/202 bracelet on a 1301 constellation so I can swap them as need be.
Was your watch guy an Omega specialist ? I might go for a new crystal and case polishing too.
How accurate is yours over 24 hours ? The guy I'm getting mine from says it didn't lose/gain any time over a week but that seems a bit optimistic.
Hi webvan, my watch guys are an authorised Rolex, Omega, Breitling and Bremont service / repairer, probably a few others too but I can't remember them all. However they'll repair any watch as long as they can source parts and its economical to do so. They're based in Bristol, PM me if you want their details.Originally Posted by webvan
Crystals can be bought at http://www.cousinuk.com, their reference number is TN5253 and they're Ģ15.95 +VAT and postage.
The Omega cal.1310 is extremely accurate, I've got 3 of them and I genuinely can't remember adjusting the time on any apart from daylight saving. Tbh I've not timed any of them but I'd be extremely surprised if they lost / gained more than 5 seconds a week. Originally they were supposed to be accurate to 1 minute a year! More info here:

Good luck with yours and post some pics if you can.

Gary
Seventies Omegas FTW! Really nice piece, good refinish too.
I'm pleased you didn't swap the day wheel from German to English - maybe I'm weird but having it in another language would be a big plus-point for me.
Yeah your weird . Foreign day wheels never really bother me either, I'm rarely so befuddled that I don't know the day of the week although it has been known .
My other two cal.1310's while we're on a vintage Omega revival. Both have had a case and bracelet refinish.

Whatch came in today, so without any further ado here are the pics (sorry for the average quality) and then some comments.Originally Posted by Omegary

2. Comments :
1. It wears LARGE !
2. Crown and pushers work as advertised : http://www.old-omegas.com/1310en.html (no "quick date" for the day as I originally thought).
3. The right side of the glass seems to be scratched "underneath" as seen in the fifth picture, pretty odd! Guess a new TN5253 would fix that if I decide to get it taken care of.
4. Leather strap has known better days, it has a "1229" marking but Google didn't find me any reference
5. Accuracy is "so so", it seems to have lost about 2 seconds over the past 4 hours, not too bad I guess but not to the "advertised" level, a cleaning might help. My Cal 1301/Beta-21 Constellation gains 1 second per day.
Nice....VERY nice watches
Lovely photo's to boot...

Looks good :thumbright:. They do wear big don't they, feels very substantial on the wrist. With regards to the accuracy Paul (SilverHawk) on this forum has repaired a couple of my old models for me in the past to great effect. The strap is pretty worn but they do crop up occasionally on fleabay, this seller sometimes has then, not cheap though.

Alternatively Tom (dickstar1977) might be able to help you out.
The clasp looks to be in very good condition which is good news.
Cheers,
Gary
Thanks for the pointers, the eBay seller indeed has what I need : Original Vintage OMEGA Leather Watch Strap 18mm New - and yes not terribly cheap ;-)
In your previous reply you'd mentioned I could PM about your Bristol whatch guy so I just did that, but are you saying it's SilverHawk from the forums here?

No mate, I've PM'd you details of the guy who refurbished the case and bracelet on my example. Paul repaired a couple of my old Geneve Megaquartz's for me. Hope that makes sense.
Cheers,
Gary
Great, thanks !
vintage omegas are really amazing... 8)
Wow, had been trying to access this topic for nearly three days, glad to see the forums are back, unless it was me !
Had my Seamaster 32Khz for five days now and find myself wearing it quite a bit. I got concerned when it had apparently lost 40 seconds on the first day, but I must have pulled the crown by accident because it's been cruising at -7spd since, not too bad I guess. Will check to see if it's worth taking a closer look.
The strap doesn't hold too well as the screw that you need to turn to lock it in the buckle is jammed. Will probably get that strap from the guy on eBay although he hasn't bothered getting back to me.
The gold band against the blue face works a treat, a very nice watch. You lucky thing.
Very nice. I have the F300 version of this. Not quite similar, but close. The bracelet really does it.
Beginning to like the megaquartz more & more .. add to that the gorgeous blue dial & you've a winner! Congrats.
/vince ..
The brown croc ? Yes, it looks nice, too bad I can only source a black leather replacement for now on eBay :-(Originally Posted by ross62
I like this. Reminds me of some 70's moments when my dad wore something like this. Love to have one myself. :-)
WV I sent you a PM about case refinishing a while back that's sitting in my out tray, is your inbox full?
Cheers,
Gary
Sorry about that, I wasn't able to access the site for several days, reading it now !
nice
Haven't been wearing my Megaquartz much after all, the leather strap is "tired" and it "slips" on the buckle and while the watch seems to run fine in my watchbox (+8/day) it sometims loses the plot when I wear it, dropping 5 seconds with no warning...on the other hand the Beta 1301 is at +1/day and doesn't miss a beat !
Took it out again today after putting in a new battery in case the "slowing down" problems were due to that, but things are getting worse, sometimes the seconds hand goes backwards for a few seconds and the watch drops minutes out of the blue when not on the wrist (the strap had gone loose so I had to put it in my pocket). Will be needing to find someone to look at it ASAP now...
Very cool.
The problems I'm having with my watch ?! Don't think so, don't think you meant that either ;-)
If anyone know what might be up with it I'm all ears.
If it goes backwards it sounds like the stepper motor may be bent out of alignment or some such issue. To my (inexperienced) ears, it definitely sounds like a stepper motor problem.Originally Posted by webvan
Thanks, never had a problem with a stepper motor before but that makes sense. Hope that can be fixed...
Lysanderxiii will almost certainly know. PM him so he doesn't miss the thread maybe?Originally Posted by webvan

well, one less problem...
That's not going to make it appear that it's going backwards...Originally Posted by stolid
Yes, no illusion here with the seconds going backwards and with the watch losing tons of time !
Thanks for mentioning Lysanderxiii, I'll try to ping him.
there is a "ratchet" like spring that holds pressure on the drive wheel for the centre seconds which is adjustable. I have been lucky and picked up several "non-runners" over the years where the problem has been adjustment on this stopping the watch from running or having the problem you described.
That sounds like it could be it indeed. Is that spring accessible without pulling the watch apart ? Is tightening it an unskilled person could do? Let me see if I can find a picture of the movement...here goes :
The spring in question has been the subject of many Omega technical bulletins BITD.
You really need to observe it through a suitable loupe or microscope....the postioning on the teeth is considered somewhat critical.

So it doesn't sound like something I can fix mysefl then :-( Any idea how much I'm looking at to have someone do it for me?
Looks like I've found someone to fix my MQ ;-) Need to work on the strap/bracelet now and since I can't seem to track down a good leather strap, I was thinking of going the bracelet way.Originally Posted by Omegary
According to the Omega Vintage site the exact reference is : 1239/202 so 202 for the end-links. I have been able to track down a 1210/202, so same end-links. Does that mean I could use it or is there more to it than end-links when it comes to matching a bracelet and an Omega watch ? Tried a search but couldn't come up with any definitive answer, thanks !
