    HMT

Went into the HMT 'showroom' today in Connaught Place, a few ( to my eyes ) nice looking watches, little bit on the small size for today's tastes ( think vintage seiko5) . the nicest was a handwinder with a beautiful curved plexi and dial and a very clean Max Bill vibe. The price ? 2000 RPS, just over twenty of your fine English pounds .
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

How long have they been there, David? Is this some sign that they're attempting some sort of rennaisance. Also, what proportion of the range is blingy, jewel-encrusted tat?

    Did you buy anything?

From the decor and state of the office internals, it seems they have been there a very long time. Its very ' old school ' just a couple of shabby display cabinets and some office furniture and CPUs that look like something out of the 70s. It definitely isn't part of some rebranding exercise. I nearly caved in at the Max bill a like , there was one other model that caught my eye , I would say 80% is typical gaudy shiny asian wrist bauble territory. Will post a couple of quick snaps .
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

    Usual Asian tat

The 'bill a like' is the one the guy is just putting back into the cabinet. Sorry for the crap pictures !

Aaaah...that's better. Dhosa, thali and puri at Hotel Saravana Bhavan . the thali had some heavenly pistachio and rose petal jelly ( à la Turkish delight ) that came with a sharp and tangy berry sauce
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Ah, that looks so much better - I take it that is the one on Janpath. I think I lived in there for about 4 months.

Its the Janata I was looking at , with the kohinoor also getting a look in. I think both look better in the flesh than they do on the website. In particular , you cant see the profile. Wasn't too impressed with the finish of the case tbh but for twenty quid what do you expect. Also ,the supplied strap is a bit plasticcy , a bit like the ones on the cheaper mondaines.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Its the one just north of CP , up past A block and to the left. Never had to queue at this one unlike the Janpath flagship. Also conveniently close to my other haunt , the Khadi shop on B block
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I still have the orange Janata, and I wear it a lot.

My Janata was a second hand refurb, and it bugged me that the minute hand was too short.
Cousins supplied a new set of hands for £4.

I thought HMT was now no more. Is there really a showroom in Delhi?

It says it's a showroom. They only sell HMT watches and half the place is more like an office space , so I guess yes, its an official HMT outlet . its rather small and shabby but its in the centre of town.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
