Reccomend me some socks & what colour?

So, 5 years wearing socks by George from Asda,

    Enough!

I'm thinking around £18.00. Practical & comfortable enough for motorway jaunts and regular London -> Yorkshire, Manchester, Glasgow jaunts. nice heel.
    Fast.
    Nice looking.
    Not too midlife-crisis.
    Useful in winter.

New highly colourful Gants are the current hot contender; any other thoughts? Second hand is fine (but there are no decent M&S with a big second hand discount yet)

Probably test wearing some a Hugo Boss on Monday, but THEY are definitely outside the budget.

These are the most comfortable socks I have ever worn, ideal if you don't like a tight top to the sock.

Who is this George Asda fellow and why does a grown man feel the need to admit to the world they wear his hand me downs, this forum becomes more and more like tawdry goings on in the jolly old east end every day.

Anyhoo a quick poll of the members of my club indicates a following for this establishment

£18.00 for a pair of socks!! Madness when I was working I wore Asda black socks as they were cheap as chips and did the job maybe going to a pair of decent thermals when it got seriously cold.I buy wherever there is a sale or TK Maxx and have found no real difference between Boss, R Lauren, Hilfiger Gant or M&S

These are awesome. Comfy. Stylish. Very stealthy. Folks wont know they're fancy socks. Keep your toes warm in winter and dry in summer. Merino doesn't pong too bad. Recommend new, not second hand. Good for sunday runs AND daily office dives.

You know it makes sense :-D

Honestly, i tried m&s with silver technology, they were that good, I went straight back down and bought 3 more sets...

I drive for a living, so sweaty feet is regular, but not anymore.

Thanks for that - I've ordered a couple of pairs of the forest and hunter green 'sportsman' everyday sox since Capricorn don't do greens in their equivalent style.

I might post a comparison after I've had them a while: they are around the same price and the companies seem to have the same sort of ethos.

Another recommendation for Pantherella. The 70% merino ones are probably the best balance of longevity and comfort - 70% is enough to ensure that they are pong-free. Made in Leicester. Last for ages. I go for the mid-calf solid colour ones in navy, charcoal etc. and I prefer the ones that have specific sizes rather than S / M / L. They even do half sizes.

I get them from here - good service:

I have been wearing SockShop for the last few years, they are comfy, last well and are cheap. They come in a variety of colours which makes for easy recognition and pairing when I wake up... my previous range of dark, browns, blues and similar argyle patterns became far too confusing!
    Best regards
    Chris

Do people actually buy socks for themselves? I seem to have an endless supply given to me each Christmas, this Christmas I had a few pairs of M&S silver technology ones and there superb.

I wear both brands and there's little difference between the two, but I would say Capricorn offer better value.

Don't be put off by them being in France, service is impeccable! They are long too, so much more stylish than short socks.

my advice is not to go too colourful...it may seem like a good idea now, but in a few years time you might find yourself with tears of regret. stay safe - navy, grey or black. all natural fibres.

anyone tried the Corgi light cotton socks? got an email offer on the light cotton socks.

I've tried the heavy cotton, wouldn't want to go much lighter than those.
