I don't know what the best is, but my favourite is the Monster. What Seiko is really about IMO.
I've seen so many phenomenal watches on this site, some running into 4 figures but in so many of the threads there is always at least one Seiko lurking and many get good comments. Lots of folks mention 'coming back' to specific Seiko's years after selling one years ago. There must be something about them to have this effect.
So, here's the big question...
Out of all of the Seiko's that have been designed over the years, what are the favourites?
let battle commence
I don't know what the best is, but my favourite is the Monster. What Seiko is really about IMO.
I haven't had a chance to see the MM300 in person. What I do know is that it is hard to beat the 6309.
There's just too many good ones to choose from, but I do keep coming back to this one , the 6105-8119,
Not my pic but one of my favourite pics of the SD600. If Heineken made a watch this would be it. I still haven't found anything to replace it with.

Costume jewellery. Ouch!!!
I like the GS SD but in the meantime...it is the best for the price that you can get all unique features & Seiko should be regretted.
GS Snowflake is lovely
Attachment 1560
6309 is my classic favorite.
My vote also goes for the MM300. To me a true icon. It's design, looks, fit and feel are at least the equal of far more "illustrious" competitors - IMO. I've not handled the SD's and GS's, but at 2-3 times the price of the MM300 I can't see them being 2-3 times the quality.
Mines here to stay.
Surely "best" has to be given context.
A GS Spring Drive is undoubtedly "better" than the cheaper models.
The SKX's are IMHO among the best VFM watches you can buy, but like many others the MM300 is a personal favourite & a truly great watch for the money.
Fancy one of these though

Wanted - Damasko DC57
Seiko Tuna for me in any guise.
It is a completely unique design which is very rare in modern horology.
Cheers,
Neil.
If I could find one of these in super condition - I would happily sell anything I currently own to get it
From 1968, where all the other Seiko divers get their heritage
High beat movement to boot

Not sure if I would call these two 'the best', but I like them!
1974 Seiko 6139-6002 Pepsi/Pogue...
Seiko SKX 251 yellow monster.
One of the 7A28 watches, especially the UK armed forces aircrew watches, or the white faced civvy version.
Fantastic movement, way ahead of its time. Does exactly as it says on the tin- great watches.
(Not my pictures)
Spork either on the bracelet or zulu, not a z20 fan though. second choice would be the Samurai btw.

Seiko 6159-7010 titanium from the 70s for all its technological firsts and designed very specifically for deep depths. Pic from Harry bishop. Tks.
The Samurai.......
This chrono diver, SSC015.
You're not going to get a definitive answer as there are just so many fabulous Seiko watches out there. That's why they're my favourite manufacturer; something for everyone at every price point. In-house, heritage, classic designs...
My personal favourites are the MM300, MM600 and the SBGH hi-beat models. Not to mention Dunc's old SBGA029.
When you take price into account, it's got to be the SKX range.
How about the chronographs that Seiko have worked so well on?
For me, it'd be the 7A28 Sports 100, the first analogue quartz chronograph. A tough and well made movement, versions of which were issued to both the Royal Air Force and the South African Air Force during the eighties.
I wore mine for my time as a military diver amongst other things during the late eighties and it is still working well today.
6309 7040 for me
As others have said, "best" is so hard to answer ... I don't think this is their best by any means, but it is certainly my current favourite and incredible VFM ... the Seiko Stargate:
(almost as awesome as my shorts...)
Still want to try a MM300 but not sure if the step up in quality will be as noticeable (or justifiable financially) as the jump from 007?
Respect the past, live the present, protect the future
There are many fine Seikos, but the SKX range are the epitome of the response to the question posed in this thread.
The 007/009 and the monsters are original designs that bring decent quality robust dive watches within the reach of the vast majority of the population, and have been sold and used in incredible numbers.
Nearly any manufacturer can make a cracking great watch that sells for $2000. It is Seiko's skill as a manufacturer to make cracking great watches that sell for under $200.
Best? - I guess the best is which you like most...
My all time favorite - which I´ve had three - was, and in my memories still is, the Sagarmatha. Shall I ever find a fourth one (with "muddy" dial please) I will not let go of it...
Original Quartz Astron. Not just significant as the first commercial quartz watch, but also significant as the moment that the Japanese put the Swiss on notice that their time was up... (well, until Hayek & Swatch)
Wow, that's hard to answer. Every Seiko I come up with, has its downside also. Perhaps the Shogun is the watch that has the most 'pros' and not so many 'cons'.
Yes, for me the Shogun. (Ask me again tomorrow)
Menno
I guessed as much when i started this. They just seem to get so many mentions -for so many different reasons.
Might have been better to word it 'favourite' or 'most unusual' rather than best but hey ho.
keep the pics coming whether it's
'The best'
'The most unusual'
'The rarest'
or
'Your favourite'
all opinions are valid

Love the grey face on this one
Great pics and comments so far folks
one thing that does seem to be coming through so far (no surprise) is that the Seiko divers are very popular.
what about some that are a bit more left field?

I've never handled a high-end Seiko in person, but if I were to choose the "best" one it would be the one in the picture below at the moment.

Pity it's just a Seiko!
Hmmm, can't decide... One of these two
Or...
The brown Bullhead, in either scruffy or minty flavours
Hell where do you start.
For me the three grandads - 6159-7000, 6125-7000...:
...and the GS 3180:
Seiko 5 automatics in various guises. Excellent quality for very little money.
Paul
If we take the question to mean a watch in current production with just Seiko on the dial (rather than Credor or GS) then my answer is easy:
MM600. Super quality, brilliant movement and accuracy, GMT, gliding seconds hand, hardened titanium so not too heavy and nuclear lume. It's an event watch.
I've had loads over the years - divers, chronos, dress - but they never seem to stay for more than a few months. This very modest example has been seeing off more illustrious competitors for over a year, with no sign of annoying or boring me, so would be my very personal 'best'.
The 7R08 GBLR999
One of the finest finished watches in the world - a Seiko

Costume jewellery. Ouch!!!
The movement on that is a thing of absolute beauty...

It has to be the 62MAS...like the Rollie Sub it has inspired nearly every diver after it yet unlike many before it it didn't copy Rolex
This has been on all week, very easy to read.
But the one I'm working towards is the 6215-7000 all I have so far is the strap!
