Omega PO Bezel change - advise needed

I have a Omega PO with Orange bezel - which I'm very happy with.

I'm interested to see what the watch would be like with a Black bezel so looking for advise on the best way to get this changed.

I popped into Omega shop in Westfield who flatly refused to do this "that would be creating a custom watch sir ... " - which seems odd given they have the same style watch in the current catalog.

Anyway, Goldsmiths said it would be possible but were vague about how much it would cost as they would need to send off to Omega who could do the bezel swap and it could cost £200-£250.

I see Cousins have the bezel for about £140 ... so question is if I buy this myself .. does anyone know a watchmaker / repair shop that would fit this?
    - I'm not particularly dexterous so wouldn't take this on myself, I'm in the M25 J18 area

    Thanks
    Ian.

I am not sure on the Planet Ocean but i had a watch maker try and change the bezel insert (not the whole bezel) on an old seamaster with horrendous results. It didn;t line up well and just didn't look right.

If you change the whole bezel though i am sure that would look better, popping the bezel off a Rolex is fairly straight forward, off the seamaster was something i just couldn't do. Was so difficult i gave up and gave it to the watch maker

Try giving the UK office a ring on this number

    The Swatch Group (UK) Limited
    OMEGA Customer Service,
    T. ++44 (0)845 274 3500

can't understand why the Westfield shop said no. It's your watch.

Safer if you can get Omega to do it and you are certain they will use the right parts.

If you really want it done, I'd go the official route...at least you know you'll get a perfect job done.

    I've done it several times

phone the omega boutique they'll order it for you and will do it while you wait, but they will charge you for the bezel and the insert, you can swap between the two

the cheaper option is to get hold of the insert, pop the bezel off and you can push the insert out from behind, don;t put the new inset in yet, put the bezel on minus the insert and then very carefully line up the insert with the markers on the watch, then just push it and it'll pop in

i have a feeling it was around £300 through the boutique but that was for the bezel and insert so you can swap them back whenever you want

Thanks for this and for the other advise on going the official route and swapping complete bezel with insert....
I was expecting it to be expensive ... but perhaps not that expensive.

Will update you all with progress as I investigate further.

For some reason Omega only sell the complete bezel assembly via their official parts distributor which is a pain if you have just scratched the insert or it's faded. And yes the price is around £120 plus vat and postage at the moment.

very easy to make a hatchet job of it - tried the DIY route this with my Rasmus - not clever.

Any further news or advice on this. My cull has lead me back to my PO, but I'm interested in being able to swap and change.

That's what I'd do, I'd never get over screwing it up.

It's so easy on a Rolex though. Is it a similar process?

No not so easy I'm afraid, you'll need a bezel exctracting tool for a start. I have seen loads advice against trying to pop it with a knife like on a sub when i looked into it for myself a couple of months ago.
My opinion is that it's fine to have a go on a Seiko SKX (quite easy in fact :) ) but on a PO i would leave it to the pro, either through Omega AD, or an independant watchmaker from whom you may get a better price
    I hope this helps

Wow - been a while since this thread started :-)

I ended up getting the Black bezel from Cousins and getting Steve at Ryte Time to do the swap for me.
Very pleased with the end result.
