Intersting how this thread turned. Not unusual here on TZ.
I suspect most on the forum are very nice to meet in person but do come over as needlessly argumentative in the forum world. Shame.
I mean, just for example, if you held a belief based upon you never having heard of a thing and then a couple of people who had never met each other and who had no agenda told you that the thing was real...
...based upon more people than you having had experience of said thing, would you consider the possibility that you were wrong?
There is a difference between stating that you and a couple of others have heard it (which I don't think anyone doubt for a second) and generalising it to say it's a common expression. In this case, the evidence supported by 2 or 3 or even 10 doesn't count as experience on the matter. I could tell you that everybody in England can speak French based on my family here, people I've worked with in different companies, etc. They would all confirm they can speak French too yet my assumption would be wrong.

You know, that's my opinion of you also.
Except, in class, l never sidetracked the discussion - l was there to learn.
l don't see a need to throw you any more lifelines. The only question that remains is whether or not you're big enough not to bite one last time.
Have a good night too. :)
Even Rolex make cheap copies of their watches. They call them Tudor.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
You see, what you're doing there is, in a rather paranoid way, hinting that l may be lying about my experiences... or at least, in your mind, somebody is... that's one of the ugliest, most paranoid behavioural traits l can think of...and much of the reason l chose to challenge your train of thought - you actually prefer to believe that people are liars than consider that you are wrong...
...as for the "last word" comment... If you go back a post or two, you're pretty much recycling one of my comments... so...
Can you actually leave it there? Can you? If so, thank you - I'll happily have the last word...
...but can you let me...?

You'd never guess this forum is mainly populated by educated middle-class adults.
I see logic in keeping the real thing safe but no logic in buying a replica then telling people you have the real thing at home.
If you worked on a farm, you would most probably go out and buy a quad and not a Ducati. G-shock all the way.
Irony.

It's called context. In a thread called 'Would you wear a 'Replica' Rolex - Like this guy?, Spesh said that if what he was going to do risked damaging a valuable watch, he preferred to use a cheap Casio (= rather than wear a fake, which is the excuse used in the OP's example).

I can accept that’s what you meant but I suggest you make it more explicit next time. In the context, advocating against the choice of a real (if humble) watch meant, at least to me, that you were advocating the alternative, i.e. a fake.

me, i'm not into fakes, but i'm also inclined not to get too down on what other people place on their wrist - i'm sure they have their reasons.
