    Argo- very good.

    Destroy All Monsters

best Godzilla movie - kept Japanese rubber-suit actors gainfully employed and is unashamed good fun. Somehow seems better with the slightly patronising American dubbed voices.

gotta love Godzilla - and you just know a big wrist like that was made for a Panerai!!!

Rotten weather here this afternoon so gave Zero Dark Thirty a watch which was also very good.
My wife has been extremely busy for the last couple of weekends, but this weekend we went out for dinner and a film. The dinner (French Living, Nottingham) was pretty good. The film, was, as you say, fantastic. We both enjoyed it. I too think it is the best Tarantino has done since Pulp Fiction.

    Best wishes,
    Bob

We watched The Impossible at the cinema last night.
Really powerful, really well acted. Defo worth seeing - might leave you feeling emotionally drained though!

I enjoyed Lawless and Dredd this week.
Unfortunately, I then watched Skyfall. What a disappointment.

Watched Searching For Sugar Man last night, beats Man On Wire as the best documentary I've seen.

Saw Argo and Django Unchained this weekend. I thought Argo was good, but totally overpraised. Django was fantastic though. If Christoph Waltz doesn't win at the Oscars, there's something wrong with the world.

Finally watched 'The Woman In Black'. Not massively impressed with it to be honest, but the wife seemed to enjoy it.

Another I've been planning to see for a while - 'Mr Nice' with Rhys Iffans as Howard Marks.
Good film but watched it after reading the book, so I was a bit disappointed with all they left out. It was all a bit rushed despite being over 2 hours long.

Another vote for Django though! Superb piece of cinema fun that one, and that comes from a Tarantino hater.

if these are the best docs you've ever seen it's time to spread your wings a little I reckon...........

    Taxi to the Dark Side
    Hoop Dreams
    The Imposter
    Crumb
    Street Fight
    The Thin Blue Line
    Project Nim
    F for Fake
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
    Hearts Of Darkness
    Out Foxed
    Grey Gardens

I'd say any of the above are worth a gander and that's just without really thinking about it........

Django Unchained. By far THE best movie I've seen at the cinema in a very long time, probably years!

Actually laughed out loud seeing a fat Tarantino blow up!

top banana - love Rodriguez so was great to see this piece on him - was also lucky enough to watch him in Manchester and he was superb.

good music doc wise I'd put it up there

Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_You..._Popular_Music for an amazing music doc - all the way from tin pan alley to Hendrix
Louie Bluie is an amazing music doc as well (all about the characters) - I think the whole thing is on youtube

Just watched "Le grand bleu" tonight (again, after so long time). What a fantastic movie.

  23. #423
    Flight - highly recommended

    Zero Dark Thirty - excellent

Life of Pi - think I would need to see it again...

I need to see Django though...

  24. #424
I was pressured to watch Blindside by the misses! It was an average film but Sandra Bullock made it pleasing to the eye.
It was'nt until the end when i realised it was based on the true story of NBA player, Michael Oare. Great story!

    Life of Pi....

    What can I say...

    Amazing script-cinematography-direction.

    Please go watch it!!

It's one of the most fascinating movies I've ever seen.

Watched "We need to talk about Kevin" the other day.

I didn't really know what it was about before I saw it. Very dark and unsettling, and very good performances.

Enjoyed Flight, little slow in places but very good (Denzel is superb and watch out for John Goodman !). Also watched and seriously enjoyed Django Unchained (Franco Nero's cameo role made me smile...), finally managed to catch Argo and I can recommend that one too.

Watched Zero Dark Thirty the other night. I thought it was very good as some others have already said. I was worried that at 2 hrs 40mins it would be too long, but the pacing felt fine actually...

If we're going slightly off track and into TV, two shows that I want everyone to enjoy are Suits and Community. Community just started its 4th season today, and it's absolutely amazing. I would suggest not reading about it and just starting with the pilot.

Just rewatched the Rambo series. Excellent stuff, if a tad dated now. Since I'm not at all into boxing I've not watched any of the Rocky movies.

Just come back from seeing "Flight"...nothing exceptional but quite entertaining nonetheless.

Could have done without the three mobile phones that went off in the cinema though. Half way through the film, some womans mobile goes off and she spends 2 minutes finding the thing in her handbag before switching it off. Half an hour later, her husbands goes off! Morons. Grrrrr...

Watched the multi-oscar winner, The Artist. What a lovely film. Classy, funny. Perfect really, and it wasn't possible to fault the dialogue. The dampness in my eye at the end wasn't because I'd been poked by a sharp stick.
    Watch it.

Thoroughly enjoyed Quartet. Was dragged to watch it while visiting Vienna, am very glad though that it happened.

Each of the actors has more talent than the entire cast of some recent blockbusters.

The Berlinale is on at the moment and last night we had the pleasure of seeing The Fruit Hunters; a documentary by a Canadian-Chinese director called Yung Chang about fruit. The documentary followed a selection of self-confessed fruit nuts (including the actor Bill Pullman), an eminent botanist and a Borneo tribesman around and this coupled with some well executed macro cinematogrophy, animation and reconstructions made for very pleasant viewing. There was one comic moment in a Malayan market where, after the botanist seemed to spend the previous 5 minutes practicing how to pronounce "Wani Mango", during his first conversation with a market trader she looked at him quizzically and said "oh, you mean the white mango".

At the end, during the Q & A session, the production team cut up and distributed a durian and a jackfruit which pretty much meant that there weren't any questions. It took me about 20 minutes to get the durian out of my fingers; I'm familiar with this fruit and understand why it's taste is considered to be controversial (described as a mixture of cream cheese and garlic) but the jackfruit was very nice. The director described it as the inspiration for what we call juicy fruits and I'm inclined to agree.

Here is a picture of Isabella dalla Ragione, a self-style fruit detective, chopping up the jackfruit

and here she is with the director, Yung Chang. The event pretty much ground to a halt after this.

In the Valley of Elah. A father searches for his missing soldier son. Slow paced but extremely well done, and moving.

Not yet, just into season 2 of Dexter so probably 70 hours of that to watch before embarking on another box set.
