Do you need a hug or something?
Keeping it gentle, not pointing any finger (nail)s.
Is anyone else unnerved by a) excessively long and b) dirty fingernails both in real life and also in wristwatch photos?
I think I am mentally scarred by inspection demerits to my 6 when I was a sixer in the cubs. I know, I know, I've got to chill out. I promise I'm trying.

Can one have too much gin?

No excuse for dirty poorly manicured nails.....I particularly dislike the bitten variety.

I suppose if you are a classical guitar maestro or a subbuteo ace then long (but clean and well maintained) nails may be excusable. But those are the exceptions which prove the rule.

Finally a thread that doesn’t mention Rolex ! (Doh... I said the R word)

+1, I dislike dirty nails that need cutting and I dislike bitten nails even more.
However, if you work with your hands a lot or gave a dirty job, fingernails can get a bit grubby and even after scrubbing with a nailbrush they won’t be perfect. Keeping them short helps a lot, there’s a difference between the ‘honest’ stained appearance of fingers/ nails that do manual work and the sort of nails where you could plant spuds in the muck. I used to do a lot of car work in the evenings, I’d be soaking in the bath later on trying to get my hands clean to look presentable for work next day.
Worse is a deformed looking wrist. .
Some on here do wrist shots that look like they are of a broken knee.
Imagine dirty fingernails and a deformed wrist? I’m going to have to lie down now
One for the fanboys
An early lesson on here was always crop your wrist shots if you don't want people making references to trotters etc. No finger nails in my photos.
Those Rolex finger nails would be handy for scratching an itchy arse 😂
Good point made there.
No mention of toe nails though ?
Or worse , both finger and toe nails being dirty and long is just minging.
I bite my nails, it’s the cheaper alternative to smoking. 😀
I always try to drag my fingernails against a wall, engage in a bit of bare knuckle boxing, fix the car then dip my fingers in acid before I post any watch photos.
Im trying but i dont go to manicure. Maybe when I start to shave my legs

Believe it or not, my old man sometimes did...
I have done, with less success... but the trusty bic and a bar of soap can provide anyone with reasonable hand eye coordination and skin with a really decent shave.
Not my 1st choice, but the average guy shouldn't struggle.
An old mechanic taught me a trick to stop getting dirt around the fingernails. Before starting work, rub some petroleum jelly around the front edges and the back of the nails. When you get black grease and dirt all over your nails, there is already grease there but its clean.
A mate of mine (Hubert you poser) once referred to my nails in a most disparaging way, made me feel most uncomfortable. Granted they were a tad long as I hadn't cut them for ages - the angle grinder was broken and I couldn't find the garden shears.
Thing is: you cut them and they grow again! What are you supposed to do, do them frequently? Normally, I just wait until one breaks and I notice so then I DO drag them against a wall or grind them on the pavement. Long fingernails are just so useful: picking up small items without is nearly impossible so longish is spot-on but no more than an inch or two long.
:)
Long fingernails are nasty on men (and I’m not particularly a fan of women having them either), but worst has to be men with one long pinky fingernail. I’ve noticed this on Indian men occasionally. Not sure why anyone would do this... is it a sort of tool to efficiently scoop out excess ear wax or to deftly harvest the fruits of the nostril? Nasty!

It is a cultural thing. Still looks nasty, I agree.
