f you look closely, there are at least two Rolex watches in the picture. Or maybe three.... I don't know, what's the going rate and premium these days on toilet rolls?

Actually, you got the same theme going there. Any shot of the Polar in the snow is a good shot!

    Great photos and watch.
Had an opportunity not long ago to get one as well, but turned it down as my job wasn’t 100%.
Have always loved this watch on an orange strap as well.

Sure. I'm using Canon 750D and Canon 60mm Macro f:/2.8 lens 90% of the time for my shots

Tnx mate. And don't worry about not getting one, in the end of the day it's just a watch. Better have a decent night sleep than that piece of metal strapped to you wrist.

This makes me miss mine badly. The second Rolex figure out how to stop the bezel from scratching when you even look at it the wrong way and give it a triplock crown I'll be back to replace it.

I managed to scratch the crystal whilst leaving the bezel unmarked

Without a doubt, best value sports Rolex out there. I never had any issues with the bezel, although I do baby my watches!

Perfect case size...doesn't suffer from being a huge block of steel like the modern Sub case and sits much flatter on the wrist...more like an Omega SMP in that respect which I find is much more comfortable.

I've owned both the older and modern version...much preferred the modern 216570 over the 16570...the hands look a bit weedy on the older model in comparision...something which the older subs/GMTs dont seem to suffer from...maybe it's the dial colour that causes this.

Thank you guys. And Christian, I agree with you, for a bit larger wrists it's the perfect case size. Not too big, not too small, very thin profile and one of the rare ones that still have the tool predigre. I hope that they don't put the ceramic bezel on top of it in next iteration, because it will cock up the design.

Stunning pictures! They really do the watch justice. The Polar Explorer II is one of the most underrated SS sports Rolex. Much prefer the 42mm on my wrist both I terms of size and look. I sold mine earlier this year, immediately regretted it and promptly bought another back. Makes me grin when I wear it.

Thanks for sharing the pics. I enjoyed looking at them.

Ah the thread that started my white dial fixation. Such great photos, and having previously decided a white Seamaster was the more logical choice, I'm now back to square one.

    Goddamn it.

Thanks Nono, your pics have made me get straight onto Chrono 24 - the pictures with the blue Nato are very striking; and have probably just cost me many thousands of pounds

You kniw what, white dial SMP is a really good choice, I would struggle with that as well. So much more toolish llok than regular SMP.

Haha, well you'll thank me later
And as for blue NATO, I was also suprised how it bonded to it. BTW if you want that exact look, drop me a PM. I've started my own NATO line of straps and that Blue one is one of them. Cheers

Incredible high quality pictures. Congratulations. We know the camera and the lens used but most important I would ask for the technique: ISO, aperture and exposure time... if it’s not too much. Thank you. Cheers

Sure, it all depends on the amount of light you are working with. So in this case the weather was overcast, which is ideal, and the ISO was low (200), but shutter speed was also low (0,4 sec). F stop was at standard 5.6.
Now the trick is to get as much 'lume' light in to the sensor as possible, without getting the surrounding light on the sensor. There comes the UV lamp (busted )
Oh yeah, the tripod is a must. And it really depends from a photo to a photo.

For instance the shower shot (right before the last shot in this thread) was shot outside with plenty of light to work with. I wanted to get the 'flow' of water, so the faster shutter speed, the better. In this case ISO was at 800 so that I can lower shutter speed to 1/1600 od 1/2000 sec. F:4 because we need light and sharpness, and Canon 60mm Macro is not the sharpest lens at f:2.8. If you have any particular photo and would like to know more, I'll be glad to help.

    Cheers

Train me in your mystical ways of watch photos, these are absolutely stunning!

Seriously, I bet you'd get people interested if you ever did want to gather some folk in your area together to have fun taking some watch shots. Big crossover between folk interested in photography and watches I think.

I think we should club together to buy this talented photographer a Grand Seiko. If he can make the Explorer II look this amazing (nice watch but agricultural compared to the Seiko) imagine what he could do with a GS with all the polished facets!!!

  50. #100
Unfortunately polished accents way more challenging to shoot than pedestrian brushed Explorer.
