Haha I bet they aren’t dancing now.

Please tell me the Croatian team all ran over to the manager and started doing the samba, please…

I didn't see the match. Did they go into extra time so Brazil could have a dance for half an hour.....

    Country of 3.8 million v 204 million
Brazil-1 good game out of 5
    You need to turn up.
Yet again Croatia come from behind in the knockout games.
Don't think they have won one in 90 mins though.

Croatia came solely for penalties and it worked so fair play to them. Brazil look better without Neymar and Paqueta isn’t Brazil standard. Has anyone here ever seen Neymar have a great game for club or country? I certainly haven’t. He’s a luxury player surrounded by hype.

But also now Brazil’s joint top goal scorer.

You may think of him as a luxury player but, as the only way to win a game is to score goals, he becomes somewhat essential.

Argentina zeroed him completely in the Copa America Final last year.

He scored a beautiful goal in this game though.

Not Neymar's fault... Brazil was just overrated. Croatia was the first real football country they faced in this tournament.

But I'm happy they're out. Their dancing was really embarrassing and arrogant against S.Korea.

    Absolutely
    Big sense of entitlement
You would have thought they would have learned when Germany humbled them in their own midden.

Croatia stifled Brazil in the midfield and at 37 Modric was immense. Croatia rode their luck but Brazil’s forwards were crap. Croatia never give up and deserved the win. Sometimes Brazil think they only have to turn up to win, always thought them arrogant.

    Penalty shootouts stats all time

Croatia 4 wins out of 4
Germany 4 wins out of 4
Argentina 4 wins out of 5

Italy 1 win out of 4

Full stats here (not updated yet)
    http://www.planetworldcup.com/STATS/stat_pens.html

Don't take it to penalties against Croatia. Heheh. They're a tough team mentally.

How the hell can Messi get away with a hand ball like that. Anyone else surely a yellow. Looked like basketball.

Argentina is not good; the Netherlands is simply bad. I cannot

That’s one of the cleverest and cheekiest free kicks I’ve ever seen…..just incredible!

Argentina deserved that after the rather petulant kick into the Dutch dugout.

    Love it!

And that terrible foul (and the aftermath) was very lucky to not result with a red card.

Can not understand why the Netherlands have stopped playing in the direct way that troubled the Argentinians so much in normal time.

This tournament has shown that almost every major footballing country has had a crappy time with penalties.

    Not just an England curse.

I'm an old man already. 52. Well at least well into the middle age.

This was the best and most memorable game I've watched in the World Cup. After Brazil-France in 1982.

I was hoping Holland to win. But Argentina is pretty good in these penalty shootouts. Anyone remembers Sergio Goycochea?

Don't take it to the pen.shootout against them.

Well, that was an unpredictable game.

After drawing Japan in the work sweep, we all had a 2nd go & I got Argentina - so had a vested interest in their win.

I now have the minimum prize of a football...

... which is somewhat galling as I gave up playing last year

Although it is entertaining, I do hope the remaining games get resolved without penalties.

That comeback from Netherlands was really amazing. And that free kick in the very last seconds of the game.

Never seen anything like that in the World Cup.

The ref gave 16 yellows in this game. It was a hot game but not THAT dirty.

That ref took way too big role in this game. His ego must be big as the mountains.

More likely to be France and Argentina.

Englands not played any team of real in-depth, experienced quality thus far and will probably get found lacking again tomorrow. Could be wrong of course.

Agreed. I’m sure he’s the very rich guy from Spain who took this up as a hobby. Destroyed the game tonight. There’s ALWAYS controversy in his games as though he winds things up.

Yes. That guy thought he should take the leading role.

Worst refereeing I've ever seen in a World Cup game (I mercifully forget Maradona's handball because the ref in that game was Stevie Wonder).

Yes in 1982. That was a great game.

I actually meant France-Brazil in 1986. Not 1982. My bad.

I don't know if it was that great of a game... but it was probably one of the first World Cup games that went to penalties.

When I was a kid I played junior football and Socrates was my hero. He f*d up his penalty. I still see nightmares of that hehe.

Any game Lahoz gets generally ends up all about him. The bigger the occasion, the worse he is. Suits FIFA to a T.

At some point I got sick and tired of the Messi worship.

But you gotta admit that guy is a machine. You gotta have balls of steel to score that kind of penalty in the pen.shootout... in a game like that... in a situation like that.

Argentina is pretty much one man team. Messi has orchestrated almost all of their goals in this tournament.

England has Kane, Rashford and Saka.

France has Mbappe, Giroux and Griezman.

Argentina has just Messi. And very solid defense. Angel Di Maria isn't completely fit to play I think.

In the old days they had strikers like Batistuta, Crespo, Cruz, Lopez, Kempes etc. etc.

Even in Maradona days they had Valdano, Burruchaga, Caniggia who were all deadly strikers.

Those days are gone. Messi is pretty much alone.

Portugal looked great but the Swiss team was very weak in this tournament.

Winner of the England-France game today will win the Cup, imho.

Unless England has to go to the penalties against Croatia / Argentina. We all know what will happen.

We also have Southgate, we win despite his tactics and not because of them. We have the players and have to hope they are good enough to win on their own.

I've been rooting for England since 1990 (Gazza, Lineker, Woddle, Shilton etc) team.

That 1990 squad was the last one that had realistic chance to win.

This team has a chance too.

Croatia, Argentina and Brazil have/had very solid defenses.

But England defense haven't been tested properly yet. Same can be said about the France defense though.

    Defense wins the World Cups.

    Let's hope for the best.
