I often think if I was like 20 years older I'd have such a sick watch collection and a massive house

Of course it's all relative and I'd probably have neither of those things, but I think it nevertheless!

    Nice one.

    Like the sweetener as well!
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Makes me feel robbed for my 16600. Hope you’ve still got yours.

Truth is, even if I had all my old Rolex watches right now, I’d sell all of them without hesitation and spend the money on something else! I’m just not that comfortable having lots of money tied up in a ‘collection’ that is really just ‘stuff I like but don’t really need’ - I’d need lots of insurance, a safe, be happy to get rinsed for £500+++ for each service - and I no longer feel comfortable from a personal safety point of view wandering around with something easily sellable and pocketable that is worth the price of a small hatchback! There are better things I can spend that money on. I’m not a rich man but even if I was I really don’t think I’d feel any different, the whole thing ‘jumped the shark’ for me 10 years ago (thank goodness)!

No no - you've got it all wrong... these were the days! (and yes - I still have the watch as it was my fathers), but in 1978, £254 was a lot of money.

Ah, Those were the days !!!

Another of life’s regrets! Interesting to me that the price effectively went up by 35% in the following 17 months. I bought my 16600 at £3980 RRP in April/May 2009, one of the last, I still have it - alas, no discount!

I bought my Tudor Snowflake Sub in 1976. The AD was closing down so it was half price - I paid the princely sum of £120. I was a builder's labourer and it was my daily wearer.

Sometimes the worst thing about this hobby is realizing I was born too late to catch the deals lol. I just turned 18 when OP bought his watch.

It's all relative - they didn't always feel like deals at the time. Although I do still struggle to come to terms with selling an LV.
