Great thread, I’ll be posting mine up in stages there have been so many !! This was my first proper mode of transport after my Chopper.
Honda XL 125 my pride and joy outside my mates house

And this my Dads Triumph Herald and GT6 I learned to drive in when I was very young on private land, I’m behind the wheel of the GT6 of course

The car I legally learnt to drive in, Austin Princess in a lovely matt ( knackered ) Burgundy finish

More to follow when I’ve found the photos

Edited to add I’m not proud of the Princess, just to be clear, but it got me through my test

1944cc, huh? Mine was only 1904! Built from a shell, originally a dark green 1500cc, the engine had a counterweighted Okrasa crank, balanced and stress-relieved Porsche 912 conrods, Gene Berg valvetrain and a pair of Weber IDF's. Changing the plugs on cylinders 1 and 3 meant removing the carbs.

I used it regularly for about two years, then sold it to a comedy impresario from Scotland.

GT4 so ahead of its time ...and really suits that colour....very nice indeed..

My first really nice motor. Had this as a company car when I was 23

Drove like a tw8t all the time. 44k miles in 14 months

Not my car, but had one of these brilliant little cars for 3 years & did 84k miles in it. Mostly going away on rock climbing trips.

    This was a lovely car

Heavy, tall engine made it understeer a bit when "pressing on" though

This is a Radio 1 FM limited edition 205 GTi 1.9

They made 25 to celebrate 25 years of Radio 1 FM. Mine was car # 13.

Then I got my first Elise in 1997

Brilliant when working, but it was a bit of a problem car & in the end Lotus replaced it after a year with a new one.

I'll always remember this as the car that started my track driving career.

-AC a car reg always used to mean it had been registered in Coventry. It's one of the tics I have - I always notice it. (I mean, I think I always notice it. I wouldn't notice not noticing it, of course.)

I’ve always loved the quattro and owned three coupes.

On two occasions, I’ve had the opportunity to buy one at a great price; the first came with a library full of paperwork and I felt I wouldn’t do it justice, the second was at a time when my cash reserves were critical.

My first car, a 1956 Buick "inherited" from my dad when he got the 1959 model:

My second car - a 1963 Karmann Ghia while I was in the Marines (with my dear mom):

My first brand new car - a slightly modified 1969 VW Beetle:

    Fall of 1969:

    My 1971 Fiat 124 Coupe:

Another modified new 1973 VW Super Beetle:

My 1974 Mazda RX-4 Rotary engine (in front of our new home under construction):

My turbocharged 1978 Buick Le Sabre Sport Coupe:

    1981 BMW 5-Series:

My 1986 Honda Prelude and 1987 Jeep Cherokee:

My 1988 Pontiac Bonneville when we moved from Minneapolis to Phoenix:

That brings me to about 30+ years ago. Several of my older new cars aren't presented because I never digitized the photos.

The only pic I can find of my 1964 MK1 Ford Cortina 1.5 deluxe. Bought before I passed my test in 1989 for the princely sum of £50. I spent about £300 doing it up and then sold it before I even took my test. Bugger, wish I still had it now. ( Bro driving )

I’m amazed to recollect all the cars I have had but there’s hardly a photo of them. Anyway this is a cool one. If I had a pic of the Orion 1.6D I would post that.

A very late-registered 928 S4 that we sold about five years ago - photo courtesy of one of the guys in the 928 group I kept in touch with.

    TZers and their bygone Motors

Not that long ago, but early millennium saw me with this.

A fun car (unusual for a Vauxhall badged car!), nicely built, with Lotus electronics, but pretty basic comfort wise! However, it was nowhere near as basic and focused as my Caterham was, and I think I actually preferred the Caterham because of that!

    I think in order:

    Golf GTI Cabrio
    Dolomite Sprint
    Passat Estate
    Volvo 740
    106 Rallye
    Saxo VTR
    Nissan 200SX
    Audi Quattro Turbo
    525i
    VX220 Turbo
    Subaru P1
    Clio 172
    Boxster S
    Audi A4 Avant
    Fiat 500
    330e

Possibly missing one or two, and I still have the last 4 but like watches at some stage I’ll get round to consolidating properly.
It's just a matter of time...

Cheers it was the 1.8 VVC mated to the 5 speed Caterham gearbox, and great for touring.
I replaced it with an R400 Duratec 6 speed on throttle bodies which was less of a tourer more an all out racer.
Have you still got a 7

1979, my Dad and me, I'd just joined the Fire Service and this was my first proper car, a MK2 Ford Cortina, previous two cars were a HA Viva and a DAF 33 so this certainly felt like a step up!.

Unfortunately, I no longer have a Caterham - J7 SUP is long gone!

I bought the car directly from Caterham, kept it for a few years then I sold it back to Caterham and they gave me £500.00 less than I paid for it in the first place!

Apparently the new owner picked it up and wrote it off at the first roundabout he came to!

    RIP, J7 SUP

My 60th birthday present to myself. Absolutely loved it, but the running costs vs the mileage I did in it, meant it only stayed with me for 3 years.

We had a DAF variomatic, top speed about 60 mph but absolute rapid acceleration and the same top speed in reverse.

Doesn't exactly show much of the car behind however this is my old Renault R26 F1 230. Seen in the 'photo is a carbon bonnet and headlamp (with the black surrounds) from the R26R, it also had R26R wheels painted black, black Renault "diamonds", upgraded brakes, intercooler, interior modifications... the only thing that hadn't been changed was the suspension. A rapid car that could destroy bends though you had to have faith in the front locking differential pulling you round when you booted it!

From what l remember l'd fitted hinged rubber
bonnet catches, later mods included a sports steering wheel and the obligatory windscreen sunstrip.

A few pictures of my 1968 MG Midget. I had the engine bored out to 1480 twin choke Weber straight through exhaust, it sounded great and a dream of a drive round Curbrough (small sprint track in Staffs)

This is my Austin Princess, pictured in 1988. I hated this car; not for any fault on the part of its designers or manufacturers. It was simply a long way past its best.

The rear nearside door was patched up with filler that had never been painted and it would very often fail to start. I used it to visit my girlfriend at York University most weekends. Fortunately the Alcuin College car park there was at the top of a hill. Typically on a Monday morning I'd have to get the engine going by pushing it down the hill by the driver's side door frame, with my left hand on the steering wheel. I'd then leap in before it picked up too much speed, and clutch start it when it had gained sufficient momentum.

It finally came to the end of its life going over a hump-back bridge near York, when the suspension collapsed. It was an extremely uncomfortable ride after that, though I did drive it back to Hartlepool.

    TZers and their bygone Motors

Posted this in another thread recently - the first car I actually bought myself.
Range was also ours, and I used to drive whenever Pa was foolish enough to leave the keys lying about!

Also kept a lightweight land rover down with the caravan, very early 70s model, for towing the boat in and out.
I was driving it about the Anglesey back lanes at 15!!!

Also had this little ball of fun a few years ago, as a temp runaround.
Was brilliant! SportKa, crazy go-kart action!
(And I genuinely parked it between those 2 cars!)
