Thread: Aftershaves - any favourites?

  1. #151
I can't buy either of my favourites in the UK any more: Acca Kappa 1869 and Boticario di Havana are still available from German sellers on eBay for now, fortunately.

Im about to replace my Creed and seeing rave reviews for Scent Samples - anyone know why they are so much cheaper than the high street? Im not complaining but £75 as opposed to £170 at John Lewis??????

    Too good to be true?

I just saw that....£75 for 50ml is a bargain (only until Sunday though). I’m going to get a bottle as I’m pretty satisfied they sell legit stuff

Arrived this morning. Ordered yesterday afternoon.

Aventus : 50ml , comes in decent glass tester bottle. Definitely Aventus. Good projection , dry down seems consistent.

Green Irish Tweed : 50ml same glass tester bottle. Little bit of leakage around cap but seems same amount as the Aventus despite that. Smells totally correct although not tried on skin.

Tom Ford : Tuscan Leather : 10ml travel botyle. Nice little bottle. Really complex smokey scent , initially a bit weird but dry down seems to mellow it and make it a bit sweeter. Nice macho scent.

X2 free samples : creed Spice and Wood official Creed sample bottle. Looks to be about 2ml plus.

Dior Sauvage 1ml scent sample branded.

X1 10% off voucher next purchase.

All in all I’m very happy.

Ok, I'm looking for some cheap thrills. What on the Home Bargains Men's Fragrances page, http://www.homebargains.co.uk/catego...fragrance.aspx, should I buy or avoid? Or is it all there because it's all avoid? ;-)

I see that they have some of the Tweed for £2.75:

    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

I’m thinking of ‘pulling the trigger’ (sigh) on some Irish Tweed - but it does seem a bit too good to be true! What’s the catch?

The sell "decants" so not in the original bottle but great to try out if can't persuade the girl on the Creed counter to give you a miniature to test.

I tried some Dunhill Icon at John Lewis last weekend... there are three slightly different scents, but the original Icon is the best of the lot IMHO.

Gone straight to the top of my Christmas list

    Although technically it's a perfume.

I cannot not recommend Trumper's Extract of Limes enough - smells half decent, but the scent lasts all of 20 minutes, and no it's not a case of getting used to the smell; totally gone from the perspective of a fresh snozz too.

Armani Mania, only seen it online or in big duty free shops at airports recently.

Just received my items from scent samples and have to say Im very pleased - half the price but with out the packaging - I even called them as I was concerned about the offers being so good but as has been mentioned they buy in bulk and re bottle the goods to pass on so its ideal if its for your own consumption and not a gift - tested my creed alongside my selfridges brought products and Im happy its the real deal.

Great prices, quick turnaround and a discount code for my next order

bottle of Creed Aventus and some irish tweed with chaange from what I pay for one bottle - happy days

Many thanks for the heads up on here

I'm surprised the manufacturers sell their perfume in bulk like this. Surely it devalues the brand and reduces their own sales.

I guess they don't care. I’m sure that the decanters are not corporate account holders at Creed and maybe have to source supplies through retailers. They buy in bulk I guess they still make a profit.

If just buying bulk suppliers through ordinary retailers they'd be no point in decanting (save for the sample sizes).

I'm pretty sure they still make about 20% profit by decanting from the 500ml even at retail.

I suspect they buy the bulk without the packaging at all. Working in the industry I know we ship it in bulk to the client so I suspect the likes of scent samples buy in the same bulk and split the margin saved from packaging costs (or lack of).

(I also bought some Creed Aventus and Tom Ford Noir, arriving imminently )

Given that they are interested in buying unused bottles from the public I was susoecting that they struggle to source through commercial suppliers. Maybe blacklisted by certain brands.

Interesting, didn't read that. That also suggests a very labour intensive operation then?

Brut or Old Spice, anything else shouts out that you're a soft Southerner.

Polo Black- that brings back memories.......... really liked that.

I've stopped buying ordinary bottles (although i occasionally get a small bottle of Tommy Hilfiger)

I buy the ultra-small vials off e-bay/Amazon now -as they don't go off like the large bottles.

Travelling? Just slip a couple into your bag - you don't even notice them.

Don't wear much, but when occasion counts I've worn this for years but can be hard to get hold of in this country..

Also like their classic Pour Homme which I've worn for decades.

    Out for a date tonight.

Aventus is of course the favourite candidate.

    Green Irish Tweed
    Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
    Are the other runners.

GIT is more of a day scent for me.
Tuscan Leather is new to me so needs a bit of testing first.

    Opinions... Runaround!

Aventus is a weekend/special occasion one for me.

Amazingreen for a daytime treat but it's not strong so if you really want it to be noticed, steer clear.

For every day, John Varvatos is really good value and punches way above its weight.
