    New skydweller?

Just wondered if many members have received any since Basel as I’ve not seen many (can’t remember if I’ve actually seen any) incomings on here.

Have you got one and what do you think? Tried the blue dial on at an event and thought it was great at the time.

I bought a black SS from our friends, but my mate liked it so much that he had it off me. They are getting me a blue dial in the NY though!
Edited to add the watch is a piece if mechanical art, but the black dial was a bit too flat for my liking. Quite under the radar though.

Though I only tried it briefly the blue does look great. Very tempted myself.

    Here too...

Absolutely love it. I wanted one so much and was literally on the phone to “my AD” when it was released (you’ll maybe remember it was released a bit later in the day when most people thought they’d seen everything Rolex was releasing) so managed to get top of the list.

For me, it wasn't just about the look (although I think it is cool) but rather the functionality and value. As far as I know, it is the first watch from Rolex that is controlled by using the bezel and crown - I might be wrong on this? Also, it is hard to believe that you can get an annual calendar from Rolex at that price point. I've discussed this at a couple of Rolex ADs recently and no-one could believe that it is priced where it is. I think the value will be adjusted upwards quite a bit shortly.

Like others here, I was the first on the AD list and I know that John Pass in Crewe have not had any other models in. I also enquired at Mappin & Webb in Chester recently and they have only had one in too. Is the shortage in supply a UK thing only, or are there other reasons that are impacting on supply internationally?

Difficult to capture the dial and the various shades of blue. Setting it was an experience!

Never knew about this model until this thread today (I’m not pretending to be a Rolex expert!). Have to say, that is an incredibly beautiful and interesting watch. Lucky people owning these!

I second this Tony. The blue looks beautiful. The black dial is my personal favourite.

It's an annual calendar with a second time zone indicator. All set by the bezel/crown in an innovative process (backed up with 11 patents) via the three settings.

You are joking, the gold can be found easily but the steel is hard to get.

Yep, in every shop window I've gone past! Seriously, only saw one black dial steel sky dweller last week in Chester.

You need to recalibrate the precise models to which your comment relates. Far too general.

Jewellers shop windows obviously, but I haven't paid much attention to the metal....not exactly being a potential purchase for me.

Well the sky dwellers I am referring to in the thread and also everyone else is judging from the responses are selling quite a bit over rrp with WF and the likes and they aren’t in shop windows - I think I’ve seen 1 from memory.

The metal is the all important bit; if it’s gold or white gold then it’s £30k+ and widely available whereas if it’s steel or two tone then it’s £10,500-£12,600 And practically impossible to get hold of from an AD.

I love this watch, to my knowledge it seems to be the first Rolex to qualify as a High Horology watch. I haven’t yet had the chance to try one on (I live many miles from any Rolex AD) and, because my watches are of modest size (from a 36mm Datejust to a 41mm Black Bay-and that’s almost too big for me) I worry that it might be too big for me. The SS with blue dial, however is such a beauty. Actually the Chocolate Dial YG is my fave, but far out of my range.

Be patient, supply is slow at the moment for steel models.

Try a gold one on for size.

The simple truth is that the new Skydweller is the best VFM watch that Rolex has ever produced. It looks better than the precious metal version at only a fraction of the price.

Value wise it knocks the spots off an annual calendar PP and it almost certainly more able to take a knock.

The only downside is the 42mm fluted bezel, it is a tad too loud whereas the PP is a lot more discreet.

I will see what the AD has. Hopefully they have a skydweller to try. Better still, they have something I want to buy for a change.

don't think it can even be compared to a PP (5146 or similar). Something about this complication doesn't feel like it belongs in a hard hitting oyster case. And at 42mm of polished flutiness is more than a tad loud!

I sold my PP 5711 (white) a while back to help fund my Skydweller purchase. That was my first (and only one to this point) PP watch but I just found it a little too small and straightforward (I'm not sure that is quite the right word). TBH, I didn't wear it and whilst I enjoyed owning it, and it was a thing of flawless beauty in my view, I couldn't justify keeping it. I've learnt that watches should be worn to be enjoyed.

When I retire, I'll be in the market for a more complicated PP watch to wear each day and enjoy for the rest of my days. In the meantime, I agree that the Skydweller is an absolute bargain (in relative terms). It has a great presence on the wrist and I love the way that the bezel and the dial (blue in my case) catches the light in endless combinations. I enjoy the operation of the watch in terms of the bezel/crown interaction and it feels robust to me. I'm very happy with it.

Perhaps in terms of modern Rolex. Rolex used to sell split second chronographs, etc

I’ll hopefully pick one up in the January sales. Only interested in the black dial though.
