It's time for an upgrade and I need to decide if I go for the 11 or 11 Pro, I am currently using iPhone 8.
My question is regarding moving from touch ID to face ID in terms of using apple pay. Touch ID is simple to use, thumb on the pad and away you go. I note that the iPhone 11 range has done away with touch ID and uses face ID instead. Does it work as well as touch ID? For example, if i'm at a gig or other dark venue, will I have to pull faces or stare at it like a wierdo for it to recognise me and let me use apple pay?
If anyone knows of any decent iPhone 11 or Pro deals, I am all ears!

It’s very good. It took me a week to get used to not using the finger print scanner - but much prefer it now, and no one can open it with you finger while your asleep lol - read an amusing story about a husband and wife on a flight, when she did just that!
It's just a matter of time...
I went from a 6s to an 11 pro max. Face ID is great. Mine works fine in extremely low light and opens in less than half a second. Works fine with my glasses on but I had to do a second Face ID with my sunglasses so it knows that as well.

Personally I prefer Touch ID, other manufacturers have their equivalent built beneath the display screen and it's rumoured the next iPhone will offer this...
Ok there are naysayers, but my experience from touch ID ( SE) to face ID (XR) was seamless. You pick the phone up , its unlocked. Thus works with lots of third party apps. Contrast this with issue of wet thumb caused by washing or just damp. Face id all day long.
Just moved from a 7 to an 11 and in less than 24 hours forgot I’d ever used a button! - Face ID really is seamless. As an aside, I did a fair bit of research and decided to go with the vanilla 11 not the pro. Unless you’re a ‘power user’ or want the extra size of the Max, the 11 is great and considerably less expensive, plus the screen size bs pocket size hits the sweet spot imho

Went from SE to basic 11. All works fine.
Face ID is excellent.
Still use Touch ID on the iPad and find it a bit of a pain.
Moved from a 7 plus to iPhone 11 Pro Max, just do it, takes 5 minutes to get used to and the bigger screen is the future

Considering the same move myself so this thread was timely. I quite like Touch ID but as others have said it doesn’t always work if your hand is damp or wet. Been hesitant about Face ID but maybe that’s me being reactionary.
I think having both on one device would be great.
I would say to all of you that even Mrs Macca who is a complete Luddite when it comes to such things got an upgrade last week from a 6s plus to the Xr and she is absolutely loving it too and I thought she would struggle .. she was frightened of her upgrade so much it sat in a box for 10 days before the old one finally gave up the ghost and stopped charging and she had to use it

FaceID on the iPhone X and iPad Pro is much more reliable for me than TouchID was. I very rarely have a failure.

They give you fluff about the gaming processor... ok but I have a PS4
Camera is better... yeah maybe but I could show u pics that a chap on IG takes with an iPhone 6 that’ll show you even that’s more capable than most of us ‘photographers’ have mastered. Most people could improve pics just by wiping the finger print off their lens (that’s why your shits look like 80’s porn)
The only thing I’d say is lacking on my phone now is battery life but it’s not really that bad. But then I’m from the days where you’d get a mobile phone out to make a call, turn it on, extend the aerial, climb on the roof of your car and be lucky to make a 2min call before half the battery died!
My battery says it needs replacing but even if I sat about watching vids and surfing all day it’ll last fine but will need plugging in before I go to bed. When I’m at work, at the end of the day it’ll still be 70-80%
Not sure what you’d be gaining over an 8 really. I reckon they got to the point of tiny gains around 6/7.
The Face ID works great, you will get used to it very quickly.
I've got a 11 Pro and my wife recently got the 11 (non pro). I think the 11 is actually a good choice, the screen is just the right size and it still take very nice photos.
We used both of our phones until they were just about to take a dying breath and got apple trade in, get the most you can out of them I say

Main benefits are:
Bigger screen
Better camera
Face ID
Longer battery life
Worth it imho. I buy the phone and have pay as you go sim.
I tend to agree, and always squeeze at least 3 years out of an iPhone. I have to admit, a larger screen makes a big difference (especially now I’m 50 and glasses have appeared!) but I always found the ‘plus’ sized phones too large for my pocket. The new ‘edge to edge’ screen on my 11 is significantly larger than my old 7 but the phone itself is about the same size, FaceTime is a bonus as it just works seamlessly and the camera is noticeably better. I think you’d be pleased with an upgrade, upgrading more often than every 3 years or so doesn’t make much sense to me as real advances do seem very slow now. Another change is the battery, they really do seem to have improved, and for me tii I so is almost the most important thing. FYI a new battery for your current phone is about £45 from apple. Cheaper than your average quartz watch but people still moan and say it’s expensive
