Not exactly planned, but we were aware this past few weeks that mischief had been had. Puppies safely into the world and Mum Ruby none the worse. Dad, somewhat bemused by the outcome of his frolics.

Yes. Mum great. & 11 is about 3 or 4 too many to make things easy. The first 2 or 3 days will be the worst to make sure all of them get their share of the milk on offer, of which she has loads.

Don’t worry, I’ll update a photo every week or so for those interested. 48 hours approx on, and eyelids propped with matchsticks. We lost one little Male this morning. He was cold from the inside out & despite our best efforts. , we couldn’t get his core temperature up. So 10 remain, including one other quite small weaker one. Nature will prevail.

A pic/week would be brillant (more than 1x/week would be nice too, but I won't over-ask...). I agree with you when it comes to 'nature prevail'. Often those weaker dogs, or at least the ones with a rough start will have health problems later in life. And it was perhaps more than mom can feed with -normally- 10 nipples. Often, only 8 of them 'work'. Nature has a way of coping with this sort of things.

Lovely pictures! You are certainly in for a busy time! Have you had any thoughts on how many if any of the pups you are going to keep? That’s why I could never let Pippa have pups because I’d want to keep them all!!!

I agree 100%. You are correct on all points. One observation I have made over the years is that usually the smallest of the litter (or runt) can turn out to be an excellent adult. We have had a number of occasions where little puppies that were as small as half the size of their littermates surpassed all expectations.

For the moment we are keeping 1. Nothing decided on Male or female. If there were 2 very similar we might keep 2 if we can’t decide. Of course I have 3 children that would love them ALL.

Ok. Firstly Apologies for my crap photos. The area where we are keeping them is all covered to help keep them warm. If I turn off the infra res it’s practically dark. Mum feels the need to rearrange them if I move them & she also prefers me to rub her, rather than handle them. This is purely her being needy & not wanting to miss out on any attention.
One week on & 10 remain. A couple of big bruisers, a couple of smaller guys and the balance are all equal. We have 7 boys and 3 girls. Eyes will start opening from 10 days onwards, so I feel it’s from then on that little individuals start to emerge. Here are a couple of said photos ...

Thanks for that! When I was a teenager, my parents moved to a rural part of the country (even in small & crowded Holland you can find quiet rural parts). They had this enormous rottweiler male. 60 kgs of friendliness - except when he had the idea that someone wanted to harm my mom... Strangers at the door were greeted with by 60 kgs of distrust!

So 2 weeks on and we have 7 boys and 3 girls, all eyes opened.
They are becoming more mobile and are able to move away from their favourite sleeping area under the lamp, in order to empty themselves on the outskirts of their area. They are ravenous when suckling , but mum has loads for them and they blow up like balloons when full. Kids are on midterm this week so they will really get a lot of handling which will be good for them at this stage. Mum is staying away from them for longer periods every day.

I will need some help choosing Kennel Cub names for these. I think maybe a theme(not watches ) that would link them all as a litter.

    All ideas welcome.

My daughter has kindly offered to help me with some cute photos tomorrow.

3 weeks old tonight. Very mobile, but spend most of their time sleeping. A little play has started & a couple of them will play with your hands & fingers and enjoy rubs. By next weekend they will be running around and cheeky. Also weaning will be in full swing.

7 weeks today. It has gone so fast in many ways. Soon time to start looking for new homes. They are serious playing & pooping machines now.

    Couple of today’s pics.
