I’ve had the bike for a couple of months now and after some persuasion from Mrs C, I refitted the subframe so that she could jump on the back.

She wasn’t 100% confident, so I also fitted the luggage rack, she’s more happy holding that than hanging on to me. She does like a backrest so I’m not sure if this is going to be for her?

No Road test with her today though as the weather has been foul, so confined to making motorbike noises whilst sitting in the garage.

It still looks the dogs danglies but I do prefer the subframe removed.

Have to admit, I do miss it. Presumably you removed the steel bracket under the seat before reinstalling the subframe?

I did, I remembered what you told me :)

Great bike. R nine ts do get under one's skin. I miss my Racer, I am so installed the rear sub frame on mine and used to love cruising around on it with my gf on the back

There is definitely something special about that boxer engine

Thats a stunning bike you have there. Very tastefully modified too. I'm pretty sure there are some amazing pics of it here too!

Thanks... You may have seen one or two throughout this thread!

Don't tell Tony but just between you and I, I'd never have sold that. Best looking bike BMW ever made and I say that as a GS Rallye owner which is probably the second best looking bike BMW ever made....

I can't quite read the writing on the signs other than the "happy birthday" on the handlebars.

Yes, and there was a lot of love that went into that particular bike!

The others said happy birthday, and "Hope you like the colours" (or words to that effect)

This is worth being aware of.

I had a similar experience a few years back (but car not motorbike) and I had to fight tooth and nail to not be out of pocket for the considerable cost of a 'courtesy' vehicle.

Just for clarity, a courtesy vehicle isn’t a problem. A hire vehicle may be, though.

As was identified in the video - and in my experience too, although mine was described as a 'replacement loan vehicle' - by the organisation that my own insurance company strongly encouraged me to deal with.

Why not try a Kriega rack bag , just so she can feel something supporting her, there are lots of designs out there to consider. My missus always prefers a top box and my bike is way down on power compared to yours.

Lastly a bit off the wall , but a pal of mine with a ZZR used to have a strap around his waist , with two grab handles on, I know it sounds odd, but it worked.

Those pillion pals are great (the handles), I use one with my son as it gives both of us confidence. Admittedly I combine with a top-box as I’m paranoid about him falling off the back!

I've been looking at Multistrada 950S over the last couple of days.

    I feel dirty.

This new V4 Multistrada is on my radar for next Summer

My mates Duke with my GS. Lovely thing but has not been the most reliable bike! Really impressive to ride though.

1200/1260 Multistrada is a super bike, although I didn't like riding it in town.

This is my mate Ian's bike.

We've been riding together off and on for close to 40 years, and up until now Ian has had, how can I put this, bikes with a lovely patina.

Plans are in place, lockdown and post-Brexit rules permitting, to do a tour of Northern Spain and either the North West 500 or the Wild Atlantic Way next year.

So finally, at long overdue last, Ian did a load of test rides, compared lots of bikes and selected this beautiful brand spanking new R1250GS.

Timing wasn't great as it was delivered on Lockdown-II Eve, but at least he got to do 100 miles or so on it before cleaning it and putting it away in the garage.

    Ian passed away yesterday morning.

I don't think I'll go to work today. I think I'll go out on my bike instead.

So sad to hear your friend passed away, glad he got a little time on his new bike at least.
A day off is a good idea and a ride is a nice way to remember him.

Oh man this is such a crappy thing to happen

I can’t believe that this situation is almost word for word what happened with a chap I was talking to at the Rhug estate yesterday.

I admired his new GS1250, and he came over for a chat, his name was Mike, and he and his best mate had bought a GS each to do the IOM, NW500 and Spain. I don’t know his friends name, but suffice to say, he’s no longer with us, and I just listened to Mike tell me stories of what a great guy he was, and how much he missed him. Mike is still going to do the trips with another friend, in memory to his best mate..

I wished him all the best, we bumped elbows and went our separate ways.

    It's rubbish, it truly is.

Thanks for all the kind comments, he will be massively missed.

I took a 230-mile round trip to see the sea, but it wasn't in.

I'm sure The Mumbles is nice in the sunshine in the summer. Not so great on a cold and wet November day.

At least I now know for sure that my waterproofs aren't.

    Agreed..

And since my lymphoma and chemo last year, I’ve really changed my attitude to many aspects of life... I’ve always been a bit of a renegade and gone my own way, but now days I really don’t give a toss about the small stuff. Do what makes you happy and what will be will be..

And to that end, I see that Ducati have just announced 3 new XDiavel models.. Tempted as I am to swap mine in for a new one, I’ve decided to modify my existing one instead.

A Norwegian chap on the Diavel forum, announced that he was selling his bike, and had a load of parts available, so I’ve bought all his Carbon fibre parts from him..

In addition I’ve ordered some nice aluminium parts from Ducabike.

And on top of that I’m going to get the wheels and yokes powder coated and add some graphics if I can find something I like...

The end objective is to make my 2 year old bike look as good as the new one, but lighter and more power...

To be honest I already prefer the look of your bike to the new one. Not least because of the number plate location, hate those silly mounts hanging down lopsided at the back.

Definitely. I haven't really ridden enough other bikes to be certain but I think it's great for the kind of riding I want to do at the moment. If I end up wanting to go faster, further or carry more luggage I may have to get something else but for now - for blatting round the Peak District and local lanes - it's a lot of fun.

It’s been quite a nice day here, so on jumped Mrs C for her first pillion ride on the R9T

Let’s just say that she wasn’t quite as relaxed as she normally is!

She says the seat needs to be a bit bigger, I say her backside needs be a bit smaller... potayto potahto

She doesn’t want to entertain the idea of grabbing handles around my waist, love or any other type and would like some kind of stop behind her, even if it’s only small. So it looks like I need to investigate how I can get some kind of rigid support behind her, maybe attached to the luggage rack?

I’ll mull it over during the winter, maybe she will just have to stay off the bike, in the meantime it’s had a clean, so time for a quick polish and get it undercover in the garage.
