I think I already know the answer to my question but what are the obvious signs with this one?
If she paid little for it that will give you a clue to the answer.

Don't know how much was paid. That in itself would be pretty obvious to authenticity.

Try diving in it! If it still works afterwards, it may be genuine!

To be honest mate I'm not really in the mood for humour tonight. Was just hoping a few people would come and say this is wrong and that's not quite right etc.
Rather than the above. I got the point though and my question was answered none the less.

To my eye. It’s a fake, and a very obvious one.

Deepsea Green font, and the other fonts (ring lock). The minute markers are louder as well.

Here is my genuine one for comparison.

    Fair enough, it's your call.

FWIW I think just giving it 15 minutes is a bit harsh, it's not much exposure to those amongst us that are knowledgeable on the details of authenticity. And they're probably watching the rugby!

Yeah everything just looks more crisp on yours.
Just out of curiosity, how much does a genuine one cost these days?

The one thing that caught my eye was the lack of white triangle around sniper-sam's bezel pip.

Letters in DEEPSEA look, literally, spaced out compared to Chalet's photo.

    Pointy 4 on the bezel.

When you actually start looking and have another to compare it too its does look quite bad. The bezel pip is very different to a real watch.

'E' of escape dead on the 60 minute marker on the Indian watch, not so on Chalet's.

Agreed. Nothing is more likely to cause flapping and squarking on here than the subject of fakes. Surely we need to share information. The last attempted thread to discuss had the original OP accused of being a Chinese/Scottish secret agent. I can understand the people in the industry keeping certain information out of the public domain so as to keep the fakers out of the loop as to what the differences are. The rest of us need to try to keep in touch with what's going on as best we can.

I think that it is important to discuss fakes because as each year goes by they are getting better, and at least maybe not so knowledgeable members, (me included) can gain useful information.

Also the fact that the shop had one is a dead give away

There are 4 or 5 other things wrong with it. My 9 year old loves spot the difference I’ll see if she gets them all tomorrow.

I paid £3 for a GMT on a Bangkok stall and it had a box and set of papers.

The vendor told me it was waterproof, once the water got in, it wouldn't get out.

The thing must be about 25 years old and it still goes when I wind it up. The timekeeping is rubbish though.

    You should.

    Bangkok, Oriental setting
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the chess world
In a show with everything but Yul Brynner
Time flies doesn't seem a minute
Since the Tirolean spa had the chess boys in it
All change don't you know that when you
Play at this level there's no ordinary venue
It's Iceland or the Philippines or Hastings or
    Or this place!
One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky then the god's a she
I can feel an angel sliding up to me
    One town's very like another
When your head's down over your pieces, brother
    It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity
To be looking at the board, not looking at the city
    Whaddya mean?
Ya seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town
    Tea, girls, warm, sweet
Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite
    Get thai'd, you're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine
One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me
    Siam's gonna be the witness
To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness
This grips me more than would a
Muddy old river or reclining Buddha
And thank God I'm only watching the game controlling it
I don't see you guys rating
The kind of mate I'm contemplating
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you
So you better go back to your bars, your temples
    Your massage parlours
One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history

I have heard, however, that there are many different species in Thailand

I think the endlinks look wrong too as they look flush with the lugs and I am sure they aren't on the original.

Oh THANK you, sir. Playing it on my Chromecast Audio. The world’s my oyster again.

It’s Friday so I’ll be sexist. The big clue is “my mate’s wife brought this back from [place].”
