Hope someone might be able to help.
I've got an iMac that I bought off someone and I seem to be having difficulty with the mail app.
When I try to send a mail direct from the app rather through outlook on the web browser i get an error message saying can't connect to the account "hotmail" and prompts me to enter the password. However, the mail account it's asking me to enter for isn't my own despite the fact I've set it up on system preferences.
I'm assuming, rightly or wrongly, that this email address might be the original owners. Is there any way for me to change this email address somewhere as I'm struggling to find a way
Thanks for looking

Open up the Mail app, go to "Mail" (top left) then "Accounts". Fiddle as necessary..
Cheers,

I'm my experience the mail app has a tendency for this. I have an intermittent issue with it syncing one of my yahoo accounts, it will be fine for months And the decide it does not want to plays for a week. I've never entirely established quite why.
I gave up on Mail and went to Thunderbird instead - unlike mail its very stable and works well.
I am guessing you are running Yosemite (OSX 10.10). There were some troubles with the Mail app in this release.
Open Mail app and go to the Mail menu, then select “Preferences”
Choose the “Accounts” tab in the preferences window.
Select the mail account that is experiencing problems and/or errors.
Look under the 'Account Information' tab and click on “Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)” and choose “Edit SMTP Server List”

I second the move to Thunderbird, worlds better than Mail. Or GMail, if you need it to be dead simple easy.
Cheers for assistance
