    Recommend outdoor security lighting?

    Hi

We've had some outdoor security lights at the front for a while now - the old style - black with a motion sensor and fitted to the wall. Can't find anything like that now. One of them has a fault of some kind and in the past I've just gone and bought a new one and changed it.

I'll probably have to buy 2 now so that they match that side at least.

Anyone got any recommendations? Don't need wireless CCTV; no battery power. Simple, hard-wired mains lights that look neat and work well.

Some of the newer ones with 2 lights on one unit look a bit prison-like for me!

    Thanks

Timely thread. Just had the same issue. Called the local electrical shop who recommended Aurora lighting brand.

The last ones I had were from toolstation and failed within a year. So am giving these Aurora lights a go. LED and white light. Not a big fan of all that, but they were faily cheap. Hoping to get them fitted this week.

Thanks. Aurora make some god stuff - we got a load of downlighters made by them.

I'll try and get a picture of the existing ones tomorrow - they go flat against the wall which I like, don't need a bracket. I was ideally after a straight replacement.

    Cheers

A year or so ago I replaced an old halogen security/flood light with THIS LED version. At 50W it's bright (think 500W halogen equivalent) but illuminates a large area on a rural property (a lower wattage would better suit an urban property so as not to annoy the neighbours). The build quality is superb and they look a lot better than some of the cheaper models. There are models here with integrated IR sensors.

I have used Collingwood- not cheap but all working perfectly after 6 years and no corrosion or anything else either.

    Contact Electrical Wholesale

    Hi

It would be worth looking for the flood-light/security light options in an Electrical Wholesalers - I have used the above and do so as and when required.

Another one I have used is City Electrical Factors.

You can look into Netatmo outdoor security light. We replaced our porch light and rear light with these. It's mains powered so no need to worry about batteries, and no subscription model like other security cams.

Had them almost a year and been faultless for us.

Whilst you don't need CCTV, have you considered Ring Spotlight? You don't have to make use of the camera aspect of it I suppose...

We have been looking at these but unsure.

I used to have the old prison exercise yard illuminations style floodlights with pir which I've changed to Philips Hue with an outside sensor. Not as bright if you need to illuminate a large area but the sensor is great as you can easily adjust the light sensitivity and range on your phone, you can easily have multiple lights come on without physically linking them and you have the flexibility of turning them on and off from your phone or at certain times.

Ring floodlight cam for me, has been excellent, easy to install, can add on other cameras (internal & external) wireless or wired. Have had no issues with the ring set up at all.

I wanted something to replace one like this:

I like the fact that is 'back-to-the-wall' in the way it fits as opposed to having a cable visible which is what the newer ones seem to have (as in, they have a bracket that fits to the wall). Ours are not very high up which is why I like the enclosed style.

This one seems to have something wrong with it now. If I mess about with it it works for a day or so and then stops again.

    Question

Is there any update on this thread (e.g., how are the Aurora lights or Ring cameras working out)?
