Recommend me a cheap vintage Rolex beater: Air-King 5500?

    Hi All

Well, it's pretty much all there in the thread title: Recommend me a cheap vintage Rolex beater: Air-King 5500?

I mean, it's classic-yet-common and can be picked up fairly easily and relatively inexpensively.

    If not that, what?

    Thanks!

Spot on! It's an Oyster case and Perpetual so you shouldn't need to wind it. If you're okay with the size it is a solid choice.

Thanks HM! I'm glad you saw this and replied. I nearly PM'd you directly as I knew you would know.

I don't suppose you've got one in stock and need a wedding or funeral doing? :-)

Solid choice. I foolishly sold mine to fund an Explorer - a decision I now regret.

    Here's a little incentive

Another possibility, and still in keeping with the look of the oyster case would be a manually wound Precision, e.g. ref 6694 or 6426. Lovely, simple watches

Chronomaster have a couple of Oyster Precisions that look quite nice, the prices seem very reasonable.

I'm following this thread with interest. I like the idea of a Rolex beater.

Parker’s Jewellers generally have a decent selection of reasonably priced older Rolex. Worth a look if you’re after an older Air-King or 6694. I’d recommend a 6424, as it sits a little larger than most of the Precision models at 36mm and you don’t have to faff about with a manual set date.

Nah this is what you need.......affordable only because Rolex is written as Tudor.

And as above it came from Parkers & then serviced by Brendan.

Some lovely little watches in the thread - thank you all for posting! makes me wish I had smaller wrists. Or that I was 20 years older!
