Rolex, GS and Lange under a poweful microscope

This popped up in my feed and it was entertaining and an eye opener but to be fair, 200x magnified is a little unfair perhaps.

He describes it well - like looking into a small city. Honestly could watch that forever. Beautiful craftsmanship.

Just as well he avoided Patek ("my eyes!"). I look forward to watching that later, thanks.

They look like they enjoy their work.

It's nuts seeing the tiny marks on the Rolex looking like they've been gouged with a chisel, but the quality on the GS is phenomenal.

And the Lange movement … holy ****

Loved that, thanks for sharing. Like many though I'm sure, what I really want now is one of those microscopes!

    Very interesting.

Surprisingly smooth surfaces - at that scale I thought they'd be far worse.

Very interesting, I’m somewhat surprised that the GS is so much better finished than the Rolex. I wonder if the Rolex is considered as good enough in manufacture, especially as it will probably never be seen like that by customers, but it certainly shows what can be done, by hand no less, by GS, also when nobody will probably ever see. The Lange is gorgeous though.

Magnification like that is dangerous - I can’t unsee what it throws up, even though what I’m seeing doesn’t even exist in any sensible, perceptible sense.... 🤯

    Fascinating, thank you for sharing.

I know it might be heresy to say this in a watch forum but I think I'd rather have the microscope rather than the watches. I could have a lot of fun with that. I expect the cost wouldn't be too different from the GS.

The Lange looks great under the microscope, I hate to think what any of my collection would like under the same magnifications.

I would be surprised if it was cheaper than the combined value of the watches. I only found a dodgy eBay ad listing a similar microscope for $60k.

Ooof. Perhaps I'll stick with watches, they're easier on the pocket.
