No. Alfred Sargent make the Rannoch for Hoggs.

If you compare the AS veldtschoen boots you will see it has the same mustache detail as the Rannoch, attaching the lower to the upper whereas the Cheaney only had a line of stitching to pay homage to the feature. Oddly, Cheaney do a proper mustache on their veldtschoen shoe.

I have been wearing my Alfred Sargent veldtschoen boots this afternoon for a walk in the forest.

Previously AS and C&J, currently Cheaney, but I stand to be corrected. The Cheaney does look very similar.

    Either way a great boot.

Hi all, I'm looking for a very warm pair of shoes or boots for winter. I'm diabetic and my extremities, especially my toes freeze in the winter, even with good socks. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

As I've posted previously, Redwing ice cutters. not the cheapest but will last you for years (as they have done for me). Quality leather outer to keep your feet watertight and a wool lining inner that keeps my toes nice and warm, the only downside is they are a bit on the chunky side, so perhaps not as smart looking as some of the other offerings on show in this thread.

Socks :as posted above, Smartwool are a very decent option.

Interesting that they do it for another company but not on their own boots.

Trickers had a range that were fur lined for Scott or Hillary I think. ( some on this thread somewhere).

If you are hitting the surplus stores, get some aircrew cold weather socks.

Edit - trickers link added https://www.trickers.com/uk/ottenburger

They show up in the sample sale most years.

Plus there was a plain version a bit like the Burford called bishop.

Cheapness Scott R boots are fur lined. Not cheap though. Come in burgundy or tan. Fancy a pair myself.

I am currently waiting for a pair of (lightly) customised William Lennon boots to arrive.
What a lovely company. After ordering them, I managed to find another pair of their boots, NOS, on Ebay, which I bought for a relatively modest sum. Having tried them, I noted that although the sizing was spot on, there was a little less volume over the arch than I prefer, so I rang them, and they nice lady (who toook my oreder in the first place) had seen my boots in manufacture, and she went straight downstairs to add a note to them requesting a little more stretch to be added over the arch when the boots are complete. It is (apparently) a common problem that English feet are higher over the arch than some, and they allow for it relatively regularly.
The great thing is that I have customised a pair of their quite basic Rufflander boots, by adding a repairable Vibram sole and making them from a different leather to normal. Their fee for such a customisation? £40.
    Bargain,
I look forward to getting them

I have a pair of their Tug of War boots without the steel. They certainly are built to last.

They used to do a field boot in Zug leather but that no longer features on the website. They looked amazing.

Forgotten her name, but they had a really lovely lady who dealt with queries.

I got mine 4 years ago and they did not wash well with the cuffs not holding on my legs.

Prefer darn tough american socks now and are washing well so far.

I keep meaning to have a look in the shop on Manchester.

I like The Hale shoe, I would like a modern black derby for work and don’t fancy paying £500 notes on trickers Woodstock.

The more observant of you may recall my search for a certain pair of alpine style boots:

    https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...=1#post5223729

Weeks, possibly months of searching, yielded nothing and neither did the couple of years of absolute inertia that followed. In any case I opted to take a slightly different tack and have ended up with a pair of Diotto Beccaccia.

    https://www.diotto.com/scarponi/beccaccia/

So far very happy. At one point I came very close to buying a pair of Oliver Sweeney Scarpone but came to the conclusion that they were a) perhaps a triumph of form over function and b) I'd spend more time polishing them than wearing them. These ones will mostly just see dubbin.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

  26. #1176
Took a peek at the site and was really taken with the idea of specialist boots for truffle hunting.

Off topic, but I loved this Storyville.

Took delivery of a pair of Blundstone 587’s first thing. The sizing is bang on and they won’t need any breaking in, I wore them walking the dog this morning for about 90mins and it’s as if I’ve been wearing them for years they’re so comfortable.

  29. #1179
Still breaking these in really as I don’t wear them often, Red wing iron ranger, no nonsense brown leather boots!

I took the last winter season boots out today, should've done this already a month ago, but I've been too busy.

These are 5-7 years old, all still looking great. I take good care of them, and wear them in a rotation of 6-7 boots during the winter.

They look good. How is the fit? Are they narrow fitting? Also can’t find a price!

Mens sheepskin lined uggs. They do various different styles not just the old school pull on type.
Wear without socks and your feet are toasty all day.

Ive got a couple of pairs of uggs and cant say Ive had hot feet in them - just wear my every day pringle socks and feet are toasty - by comparison timberlands, red wings and grenson that I own are just boots so tend to wear thickert socks with them

Theese are like wearing slippers indoors

No, sheepskin regulates body temperature so heats you up when cold and cools you down when hot, is why quite a few people still wear uggs in summer even tho it seems contradictory.
It also prevents sweating so you never get swampy feet :-)

You have to not wear them with socks tho for them to work properly.

I gave up trying to find decent everyday boots that don't look like trucker cast offs or Eton brogue hi-toffs, so gone for hiker casual instead.

Is this actually true in practice? I did try to look into it more between work tasks today but couldn't find anything really conclusive outside of the marketing from Uggs themselves, or other online stores who sell sheepskin-lined slippers or boots. There were a few threads on Reddit that suggested your feet can get too hot even in winter wearing sheepskin-lined Uggs or Birkenstocks.

I am intrigued as I suffer swampy feet even in winter when wearing fleecy socks or my latest, a pair of synthetic down camping slippers (Rab Cirrus Hut). The price of sheepskin slippers seems very high, but if it meant my feet stayed warm and I didn't have to regularly kick them off to let me feet breathe/air out it'd be worth it. Similarly with sheepskin-lined boots in winter over the boots or trainers I usually wear (even my leather-lined Panama Jack boots make my feet sweat excessively, and let's not start with trainers with synthetic lining!).

It's definitely true for me but it has to be proper sheepskin and has to be worn without socks.
With socks it can get too warm.

There’s certainly some truth to this, I wear merino base layers for most sporting activities. I also tend to wear merino, lambs wool or cashmere jumpers most of the time now. There are limits though, no matter what, a big wool jumper will be too hot in summer for example. Also, wool doesn’t smell, I don’t touch synthetics for anything other than running.

Ugg slippers and 2 pairs of British Fenland ones & I need to remove them all throughout the day as my feet get too hot. Tried both with and without socks & no difference at all.

I now wear with socks as can wash them more easily. Have yet to find a pair I can wear all day without getting hot feet.
