The Sales corner Rolex sales thread......

I’m new , and first to admit it so you could say I should keep my nose out but my goodness it does seem that almost all threads selling this brand ends up in a bit of ‘ debate ‘ over the rights and wrongs of selling above RRP.

This site is great and I spend many a day looking through the various threads learning what is what . The joys of being mew to watches.

so the question I ask is why isn’t SC post only , as in people cannot reply to the ad . If interested in the watch or item then they can just pm the seller with questions and offers ?

I’m sure this has been discussed before and I’ve missed it but the arguments and disagreements are for a newbie like myself almost spoiling a wonderful forum.

Just stop this thread right there.
No need to get into a bun fight or pissing war!
Won't benefit anyone in the long run.

There's a general principle of transparency in sales threads. Being able to post often helps clarifying missing info etc. It also helps reveal if something is off about a watch. Sometimes this facility is abused by those who want to score petty points but generally it seems to work well.

I can pull this if it does become iffy but my point is that as a newbie the negativity it brings spoils a great, helpful and informative forum.

The last thing I want to do is to start another one !!!

Use the search function, and you see all the views you like on why or why not it should/shouldn’t be sales post only.

It’s better just the way it is - despite the odd tiff.
It's just a matter of time...

I am quite new to this forum, and the fact that it’s an open forum for discussion is one of the reasons I come here every day for a good read. I don’t watch tv or read the papers.

Being able to comment has revealed fraudsters who might otherwise have duped the uninitiated.

It's his watch, he can do what he wants with it. Market dictates the price. Nobody's business but the buyer and seller's. Take it or leave it. It's a commercial marketplace. Caveat emptor. I'm all right, Jack, pull the ladder up. Etc.

happens regularly on other sites , I.e a car forum often has posters chiming in with regards to price , condition etc , overcharging etc .
Part and parcel of advertising on a forum I suppose.

You've been here 18 months, you either get it, or you don't as other forums are available.

SC gets political over profit but Rolex profit is different profit in that it’s acceptable to most due to current market forces.
The old days of closed door selling at cheaper prices are gone, there are more people now with access and it’s common for watches to disappear off forum at profit elsewhere.

For this reason and I mentioned elsewhere here, I think Eddie should rethink how SC and the fundraiser work together.

Speaking as one of the "uninitiated" may I take this opportunity of thanking you for protecting me against the evil sellers who lurk out there. Without the likes of you, I really would be a lamb to the slaughter and for that I am genuinely grateful. How ever did I manage before I came across you.

Speaking as a novice, for me the transparency / ability for the herd to be protected is a really big part of why SC is (in my eyes) a safe space for deals and a big draw for the forum. A few fallings out seems a small price to pay for this trust.

I was shocked at the tat for sale the first time I was allowed to look in , I was wrongly expecting it to be watches only.

For all the tat it's got plenty of lovely watches. Where else a bnib speedy under a week old for £1900? Ok that was special, but there are rare pieces, plenty of trust worthy seller and buyers and generally it's cheap with no significant commission.

Watch ads, especially Rolex ads, have to run the gauntlet of less than helpful comments, not much to criticise on second hand clothing I suppose!

Don't worry, all will become clear in the fullness of time. Just don't rush things as it's frowned on a bit by the boss.

Does it appear under forums or community?

it will appear in forums, between the george and dragon and the wtb. give it a day, or try logging out and back in. it'll come soon enough...you'll just miss out on a daytona today or a Patek in the morning....there will be more.

It took my profile an hour or so to update, only realised I had access after my New Posts feed (Tapatalk app) flashed up a Pits and Pelts thread and I realised I had access to new sections. That's one thing I'll never un-see

Damn it... I was hoping to pick up a Patek and a Daytona. Guess I’ll have to wait!

Well, it's been over five years so any dealers should be well aware of it by now. If someone doesn't like it then there are alternatives platforms available. It's in a SC sticky so fairly difficult to miss.

This post appears in the wrong sub forum. WT is for talk about watches, not about sub forums of TZ. Try the general forum.

It’s still 5 pounds to start an argument btw.
