Finally something comes along to rival the Audi RS4/6 avant … they have had the market space to themselves of late

I’m still not sure about the new bmw grilles though, my boss just got a new x5 and the are massive!

Not looked at the latest 3 series, but historically the tourings have had tiny boots (I discounted one because of this).

Think of it more as a hot hatch M3, but the boot does undermine its status as a challenger to an RS4 for many.

Not wrong there, the Audi is massive in the back but I think it’s based on the current 3 series touring which even with 4wd has a decent boot. Not class leading but a very competent car in terms of space

I think the latest Audi A4 and 3 series boot space is the same nowadays

Having owned several M3's in the past this really excites me and I was seriously considering putting a deposit down, but unfortunately it wasn't financially possible. I have no doubt it will be fantastic and engine-wise better than the next W206 C63 wagon, which will be using a 4 cylinder hybrid powertrain :(

There was always the 335D Touring, okay it's not so 'in your face' and as powerful as the new M3 but still a rapid car.

The Merc might be a boring 4 cyl but on figures with the electric it’s still going to be 653hp which isn’t going to make it a slow coach.

Very true, but the total package for me includes a nice sounding engine. I certainly wouldn't write it off as I recently bought a Mercedes after 8 BMW's and I don't think I'll be going back to BMW for a while.

Koenigsegg can make a 3-cylinder engine produce 600+ BHP, so the idea of needing lots of cylinders is rather a thing of the past now, especially as everything is muted anyway.

It'll be a while, though, before people can accept a 4 cylinder supercar, I suspect.

The whole 'giant grille' thing makes me a little indifferent TBH.

I am sure it will be epic, but who the hell in BMW signed it off?

Well… apart from that grill, it looks great.
It's just a matter of time...

Agree mate - as a confirmed BMW fan who has had a few over the years, I just do not understand why/where this abomination came from!.

Think I read somewhere about a larger grill being more attractive to the China market.

They can do a larger grill without it looking like that though.

While not a super car my M3 is a 4 pot and sounds great at 7000rpm!

No but slightly different formula … the new ones admittedly about to arrive are hybrid

But old e63 .. it’s a bit like comparing a sledge hammer to a scalpel in the Audi, one is precise .. the others makes a butt load of noise and is a bit of a yob

Someone I work with has a 340d (I think) it’s the x drive also and an absolute flying machine
I think it’s around the 340hp mark but as with all diesels .. that wave of torque is relentless, they do make a good car, I bet the 340i is a hoot with those figures

It was really quick. Someone on ph forum Said the xdrive m3 does 0 - 60 in under 3 seconds.

Impressive figures, I’m a big BMW fan, but you know the only thing that puts me off is the current styling
