It's got quite a retro feel that one.

Is it after a particular historical model?

So it's a 'Japan only' sports quartz, the first 'sports' model. Interesting. Grand Seiko getting frisky.

Pity the blue dialled one SBGV247, is a limited edition as I'd love that.

Well, apart from the quartz GS Diver's, the anti-magnetic SBGX models and others like my SBGF021 with 200m WR, lumed hands and indices and independent hour hand:

I saw the SBGV247 recently in person and it is fantastic. Were I not already in far too deep, I would have considered it as a one watch forever purchase.

Another quick question... other than the new sports gs as above - is there any other 40mm gs quartz currently available ? Most of the quartz seem to be the smaller case size..

    cheers

If you are looking for a white dial you may be disappointed with this one as the dial is actually a silvery grey rather than white.

Thanks for the info, I think worth seeing in the flesh anyway. Might still suit the look I want.

First thing every morning I'm amazing by the legibility in low light. The black dial helps but here I try to capture it against my wife's white dial watch.

The SBGT241 was my first Grand Seiko, absolutely blown away by it. These two will not be my last. I just ‘need’ to find the Spring Drive that floats my boat.

TBH I'm not sure how I'm supposed to respond? Does TZ etiquette require a macro image with today's Times in shot too to prove for the internet no such contamination afflicts my Snowflake; or shall I book it in for a precaufionary service in case my poor owd eyes are not as good as your iphone? Rest easy, all is fine :)

Popped into the Seiko boutique, they gave me this strap (and clasp) albeit I was after the black gator. I think it looks ok, but will be better on black. I need to pop in again and hope they have the black strap in.

    When you say "gave me"...

The GS deployant is about £350 and the strap not much less expensive (I couldn't bring myself to write "cheaper")

Yep, gave it to me. Albeit it was part of the watch purchase; which was some months ago and they've been waiting for stock since.

So not necessarily free, as I would have negotiated a larger discount if I knew a strap/clasp wasnt coming my way.

This thread is not helping my desire for a grand seiko that has recently been set back a couple of years by the arrival of a little terror called Toby three weeks go...

Show us your Grand Seikos THREAD

... for some reason, perhaps in part due to the wonderfully shot pictures on here and the breadth if design and overlook offered, Grand Seiko appear to be in a different league to the vast majority of luxury watch brands.

    Keep those pictures coming!

Edit - pic upload failure (must read the sticky!)

    Very nice. Imported?

I'm the 4th owner within TZ-UK of this beauty. The SBGR257G. I traded up from my 9F quartz which is a VERY similar looking watch on 1st look.. but there are some great upgrades here (asides from the obvious change from 9F quartz -> 9S65 auto).

    • This is 39.4mm - perfect size for me.
    • The bezel is NOT polished, its circular brushed.
    • There's a crown guard and screw down crown.
    • The indicies LOOK rectangular, but are in fact VERY intricate - scalloped is how I'd describe them, and they are filled with what looks to be a white enamel stripe.

The bracelet was a challenge to adjust!.. but with its small links (just over 1/2 each) you can get a perfect fit. Delighted overall...

Note the VERY subtle and hard to spot etched GS logo in the centre of the display back!

Here's the size of those bracelet screws! 0.5mm screwdriver needed and a LOT of patience!!
