Pressure washer part not included - but what is it?

Advice needed please. I've just assembled a new Nilfisk high pressure washer but I can't use it without what looks like a hose adapter. However I can't identify the part that's needed. Can anyone help? Thanks All.

It looks like either an inline filter (but doubt that as it looks sealed) or a non return or check valve, to stop you getting soaked when you dismantle the hose?

It is to stop back flow into your drinking water. Not really necessary

Is that a fancy one way valve to comply with modern regs?
Most new taps have these built in.

    Hi

Knock the ??? off the URL: https://www.nilfisk.com/en-gb/accessories/?id=106411177

It looks like a non- return valve - to stop back flow of water into the mains (drinking) water.

No idea but I’m guessing the vast majority of home users of pressure washers don’t use one, have never heard of one and wouldn’t pay £50ish for one, no matter what the regs say!

Thanks All, sounds like it's not actually necessary. However I've just tried attaching the hose normally and the pressure washer isn't working. No water is flowing into the washer. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Modern outside taps have them built in, older properties probably not unless the tap is a recent addition.

There are lots of manufacturers and less than £20 should get one (if you need one, obvs.).

Just as an FYI, the maximum fine for breaching those regs. is currently £1000 plus potential disconnection.

I use a Hozelock one. Around £20 atm. An essential device imo.

I added a new external tap (with a double-check valve built-in) and it cost £7.00.

You'll need to add more info to get an answer e.g. is the water coming out of the supply pipe before you connect it to the washer?

Yep, water comes out of the tap into the hose but nothing happens when I pull the trigger!

I suspect that water isn't flowing into the pressure washer, probably because of the valve on the other hose end?

Same connector on both ends of the hose pipe. Attaches to the pressure washer fine but water doesn't seem to be flowing through.

I only ask because I was sort of expecting a noise from mine - I doubt it’s the hose

Is water coming out of the hose - pre pressure washer

Water comes out of the hose when I attach the hose gun/nozzle that I normally use. No water comes out if the gun isn't fitted (presumably due to the valve).

Is that yo-yo connect in properly as it looks like an aqua strip system - maybe preventing water flowing - have you a plain old regular tap connection

You need to change the connnector on the jet wash end to a standard connector - I bet that’s it

Yes I think you're probably right.

I don't have a normal tap connection so I guess I'd better order one. Might as well get a non-return valve at the same time.

That may have an AquaStop built into it, in which case it relies on the male connector on the Nilfisk to open the flow when connected. If you have a sprayer attachment connect that to the hose connector and see if water comes out.

That’s the bit that’s stopping it - I bet it’s not compatible or not seated far enough in to allow the flow

Yes I think it has a built in AquaStop. I thought it would still be compatible with the pressure washer but I guess not.

It certainly should be compatible, I suggest the OP takes a photo of his existing tap and a photo of the Nilfisk connector.

Does your Nilfisk make any noise when you pull the trigger on the handle - either with or without the supply hose connected?

Yes - unscrew the male part from the pressure washer - snap it into the yoyo connector and see if water flows

Unscrew the blue bit and connect back to your hose and turn the tap on - water should flow

My hose won't connect without the blue bit.

I think I need to get different connectors.

I used hozelock connections, the Aquastop connections means you can remove an attachment without turning off the tap and draining the hose.

It also enabled me to cut the hose and make up a shorter length I could add on for jobs further from the house so I didnt get in a tangle.

No - unscrew the blue bit from the pressure washer
Click the blue bit (from above) into the end of your hose(that connects to the pressure washer
Connect your hose to your outside tap and turn it on
Water should flow from the other end -

Essential everything you had before without the actual pressure washer

That doesn’t look like a Nilfisk OEM water inlet connector to me, so perhaps that’s the issue. As has been suggested, try swapping it with the tap connector.

It's an OEM Nilfisk part, fresh out of the box.

I suspect it's the aqua stop connector that's causing the issue.

Check that your hose hasn’t got a kink in it, which will stop water flowing to the pressure washer. When hoses age they tend to lose a bit of rigidity and kink more easily. Mine does.

BTW I have a Nilfisk pressure washer an old style outside tap and need nothing other than regular tap hose connectors and the washer works fine.

Unless I have a kink in the hose!

If your connecting the aqua lock side to the pressure washer it won’t work, as the Aqua lock is doing its job needs to be a normal connection on the washer side and aqua lock on the tap side.
Make sure the aqua lock is on the tap side.

They usually are, in fact that's the first blue one I've ever seen on a Nilfisk.

Nope. The whole point of an AquaStop is to stop water coming out of the hose until it is connected to whatever you're plugging into it, having one on the tap end defeats that object.

Yep you are correct! Sorry I was thinking of the one way valve that stops the water going the wrong way.
