I’m glad the watch ended up in the rightful owner’s hands.
Aside from that I don’t think his input to this forum will be missed. Good riddance.

I read the link, thought exactly the same thing then saw your post. Then again, it can’t be cheap employing a legal team, but perhaps risky wearing a Rolex whilst mingling with the smack heads in Tesco fighting for the last bog roll.

Splendid, that has made me chuckle.

Is it wrong that I actually heard Attenborough's voice in my head and related it to this thread.

You're right, thank you. I misplaced my enquiry as I had assumed that I was on the London Watch Fair stolen Rolex thread, not this one with flouncy Nasty Nick.

Hey "Mods," can we get this one locked please? ;)

but there was NO ERROR made by a jeweller in the 2015 Insurance claim about a stolen watch

the facts - Rolex UK received a Police Crime number and in the insurance claim my watches details were supplied with serial and model number which was cross checked by Rolex UK before my watch was placed on the lost/stolen database

the police will shortly become involved because this is fraud

the facts - a watch legally bought in 2011 and verified as such was reported stolen in 2015 and paid out by Direct Line

how do you get my watches serial number and model number unless you had previous access to the watch?

actually the cheapest 'brown' is in Worksop about eight miles from me

certainly a former mining village and in truth not far from being described as the arsehole at the end of the universe

    why am i living here?

i came came back to look after very elderly parents who have since died

i planned to sell up and move to the country and enjoy my shooing/fishing

Covid put my plans on hold for over two years

the tax paid can be confirmed and i still have another payment due but that does not stop your mocking

old guy, yes, if that matters?

IBS - not something i would recommend but proverbially 'shit happens' ,lol

now have skin cancer on my face but have a procedure due on 12 April

i guess many of you wish i might die whilst under the knife - very nice of you

but i will report back on the Rolex issue

might i ask why a legal team is so inflammatory to you lot?

i have solicitors who deal with property/tax/company law etc etc - so yes, they are a team

Well, as you ask, and it's nothing but a guess, but the most obvious way is that you are somehow involved! Someone must have done it and you are someone; don't try to deny it. This would make your high profile rudeness make sense as you might have been trying to establish your story memorably. Unfortunately, that may have been your first mistake and you would have got away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling kids.

  39. #239
Someone is in for a nasty surprise. Why would you not think that at some point the genuine owner will send it in to Rolex for a service at some point in the future.

I guess they thought that after 4 years no one will ever know.

    Dumb.

The problem with this one is that Goldsmiths have no record of their dealings with the watch. Proving that whoever sold it to them and whoever made the claim are one and the same, seems rather difficult now.

If Goldsmiths paid out the purchase via a bank account, it could be possible to have the insurance claimants bank accounts, for the year prior to Nick H buying it, examined.

The watch may have been taken in part exchange, which would mean a payment to Goldsmiths rather than from. Of course the seller to Goldsmiths may have paid any trade-in value shortfall in cash.

The only way round this is for all trade-ins taken to be recorded centrally so that when claims are made, they could be cross-referenced. Whether that would be cost-effective or not is another matter.

Having twice grown angry with those who tried to help you and twice promised never to return, you have then twice returned.

That doesn't make for an especially credible correspondent, but if you wish to see loose ends tied up :

Must it be fraud? It could have been an honest mistake. For example, many people will erroneously transpose numbers in longer alphanumeric strings.

Quote Originally Posted by nick h View Post

Rolex watches were historically made in batches, such that a 16233 with case number R620533 might be part of a batch of several hundred or a few thousand 16233s, with consecutive case numbers. If that watch were then mis-reported as R620553, the number would still correspond with a 16233, the latter watch thereby erroneously but innocently recorded as stolen.

In the real world every member of tz-uk would wish you well with the other challenges you face, but in this specific matter you do seem needlessly to have taken a small problem and made it much bigger for yourself.

Have you ever posted a picture of said watch on a watch forum, eBay or anywhere else with the serial or card on display?

I guess this is why most of us try to not show the serial on any pictures posted.
