Sorry to hear about the hassel Eddie and hope it gets sorted
Dave
I received a phone call from my hosting service at 2040 hrs on Friday evening, informing me that my websites were the target of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. More than 300,000 connect requests were made to the server in 30 minutes, bringing the server down. My hosting service took my websites offline whilst the attempted to divert this traffic into a "black hole" but as at this morning, the attack is continuing at the rate of around 70,000 connect attempts per hour, which is why the forum and website are still running slowly.
It's almost impossible to discover who is orchestrating this attempt, all the connections come via infected "zombie" computers worldwide. It could be a competitor, disgruntled customer (most unlikely  ) or something as simple as kids demonstrating what they could do. Steps are underway to minimise the chances of this happening again.
Eddie
Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
Sorry to hear about the hassel Eddie and hope it gets sorted
Dave
Glad you’re back up now.
Could have also been one of those that have been banned from the forum of late

My condolenses, Eddie. They'll get bored and go away soon!
Best wishes

Glad to have the forum up and running again Eddie. It never ceases to amaze me, the depths some scumbags stoop to, to get their kicks.
Those responsible should be gassed.
Good to have the forum back. Missed the banter over the weekend.
Absolute w@nkers !!! :o
Phew!
Hope all stays well. For a minute, I thought I was locked out because of me bad Engrish.

I thought the forum was just banning Yanks.
Glad it is sorted.
Dave
Glad to see you back Eddie. Make syou think about cyber terrorism though. Imagine what it would be like if they hacked into finance, utilities, transport systems.

Pfff, seems Eddie is back in business again.
Good luck sorting it all out Eddie.
Aaaaah, posting again, the week can begin.............. :D
Cheers,
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Welcome back!
I really cannot understand the point in DOS attacks on such a website. It's not big enough for anyone to care... maybe 100 people tops were affected... I mean, if someone hacked BBC's website and put some sort of message, that'd be a real trophy but most people haven't heard of your website nor your products (it's not a negative statement about your business or products, of course, but reflects on the specific nature and focus of your business). And it's not like you'd be down forever so the dent on your business would be minimal; it just gives your ISP more work. It can't be a "that'll teach him" unless they say who they are and why they did it. It's a wholly pointless exercise. It's as irritating as someone breaking into your shed and stealing a screwdriver.
Great to see the site up and running again.
Thanks Eddie.
How very sad that a small minded individual, or a group of small minded individuals (collective noun please) can attempt to ruin other peoples fun and Eddies lively hood out of spite.
Lock them in a small dark room and ignore ‘em.
Sean
very good to have the forum back . must have been a hell of a weekend for you eddie . i was talking about the outage and swmbo suggested it was maybe a jealous wife that orchestrated the attacks?
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Great to have this back and thanks again to Eddie :thumbright: Hope everything gets back to normal quickly.
Hope you are all sorted it must have been emotional, personally Id like to say thanks I have achieved a years work this long weekend!!!!

Could be a random attack but it's not uncommon for them to bet targeted and coupled with an extortion attempt (i.e. pay us XXX and we'll target our botnet somewhere else). Scumbags!
my wife commented over the last fews days, how much spare time I had.... phew, glad to be back to being busy!
Props to Eddie!! Welcome back to the NET!!!
Glad to see you and the site back Eddie :bounce:
I just don't understand what these people get out of attacking a small UK site !
Welcome back Eddie. Can't understand why anyone would want to target a little known corner of the Internet like this?
It's good to be back 'home' at last. My missus thought the whole attack was great and that I deserved to go cold turkey for a while.
The few days absence has made me realise what a great site this is...thank-you Eddie! :D
Welcome back Eddie!
Whilst this site was down, I looked around other forums and it made me realise something that everybody already knows - that this is the best forum out there
Dont let them get to you Eddie, keep up the good work
Gosh--I didn't want to join another forum but was beginning to think that I'd otherwise have to make my peace with real life--and the terms weren't good...
My sympathy to Eddie for having to go through all this, and thanks that he sorted it.
Great to be back! Let's hope the suckers responsible for this get leaking batteries in their watches
Well done Eddie..............it's great to be home again :D
Good to see you back!!
I was starting to develop the shakes...........
Complete and utter tossers! May the fleas of a thousand camels infest their armpits!!

What a nightmare Eddie, glad its all back and running well mate :)
Given that to mount such an attack takes planning and thought it's a form of perverse compliment.
First you need to create a virus, then seed it so it's picked up by hundreds of thousands of stupid people's unprotected computers. The virus is created such that on a set time/day/date it goes off and the DOS begins.
It's a fairly common form of attack and has hit major industries as well as, now, Eddie. Often there's a ransom involved to stop it.
Im just so glad its back. I'll be less arguementative next time the missus says I'm "addicted"...
Glad the Forum is back! Breakfast wasn't the same without a morning fix of tz-uk with my coffee and cereal!!
Hooray! :bounce:
The internet is boring without TZ-UK.
Welcome back.
Sorry lads, most of that was me trying to see if the site was back up.Originally Posted by swanbourne

Good news, Eddie.
Glad to be back and hope it stays ok this time.
I hope that the barstewards did not affect the Timefactors site and business too much.
Cheers,
Nigel
Really great to see you have managed to get things back up Eddie.
I hope it goes without saying that we all thank you for your hard work and we share the pain that you must have felt these past days.
Despite what this person has done, you retain a loyal base of members.
