Well, so please put me in (again) for any number Eddie. Just want to be sure to be on the list (if there'd be one).
I had a 45 minute discussion on the 'phone about this project today and resurrected the possibility of a silver case for the LE. Might have to be .800 grade to get a decent hardness.

That would be great Eddie - like Ron, I was very interested in this.Originally Posted by swanbourne
I know giving a cost is not possible now, but can you give an idea of using silver over steel - x2? x3?
Edit: is this watch handwound or auto? From the sketch [sub-secs at 6] I assume the former?
That would be pretty cool. Might it tarnish quickly? Not that I mind - part of this hobby is being able to polish stuff!Originally Posted by swanbourne

I love silver! # 21 please :)
I always wanted silver for this one but allowed myself to be talked out of it because it was supposed to be a "scratch magnet". I've thought about this for a while and decided that even though my 100 year old silver pocket watch is scratched, it's not a disaster. Just bear in mind that silver isn't as hard as steel and whilst you can plate it to make it scratch resistant, it will still scratch and once you start polishing the plating off, you get two slightly different colours.

A silver case would be very nice for this watch - something special for sure!
Love the idea of a silver watch.
May I bagsy 006 on the list, please?
Somewhat perplexed by the detail of the seconds track in Born's drawing; he notes four intervals, rather than five. Have I missed something, or does this mean that each second will last 25% longer?
Hello Eddie, I would like to say the watch looks great and if you get around to making it I would like one please, I don't care what number it is, I just want one.
All the best
Steve
I think silver will add to the character and vintageness of the watch, I'm in all the way !
If there's room on the list, I'm in!

Ok, here starts the panic. I am also in, not caring about the number. Let´s hope that this time I can get on on time! :(

I'm in too please, #099 otherwise any number available :)
I see my name's still there on the original list. Good!
Must say I thought it was a shame when the silver case idea originally got dropped. I for one would be delighted if it was back on the agenda.
Of course I'm still in for 009, or xxx if I've been bumped from the original list.
Good things ARE worth waiting for!
I'm going to be foward and ask that Mr X has number 41 the same # as his 50. Of course he will have to aprove this reservation.
I'll be even more forward and suggest that we give Time Factors a chance to contact the people on the original list to see if they are still interested. Then, once it is determined who still wants to buy a CAF on their original reservation, announce that the remaining numbers are opened up for new reservations.
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Eddie binned the whole serial number issue altogether.
A move often considered :wink:Originally Posted by Nalu

My first post here after lurking for quite awhile. Seeing this project might be resurrected I just had to register and say I want one too! Love the casing on the old watches, don't understand why it isn't used more.
Oh and don't worry about which # anyone will do! ;)
...except...hmm #50 would be nice I guess...or #200...or... ;)

Well it seems that the conversation yesterday put a rocket up somebody's jacksie. I received a phone call this afternoon to discuss a few points.
1. They really don't want to do silver (tough, I do)
2. The watch can't be water resistant with the rotating bezel pointer.
3. If I want to use the Unitas 6498, the case will need to be 52mm (I told them that this was nonsense, the original Longines movement is bigger than the Unitas so they'd better look at this again).

I reckon we all have plenty of water resistant watches to wear when needed. The rotating bezel pointer is really one of the key attributes of this watch IMO.Originally Posted by swanbourne
I think the reason that they said the case needed to be 52mm to accommodate the 6498 is that the original design called for an internal view screw back underneath the hinged solid case back. This was when the design called for the ETA2895-1, a much smaller movement.
Because the watch cannot be made water resistant with the pointer bezel, there's little point having a separate water resistant view screw back. I would still like to see the back hinged, rather than a pressure fit back though.

:D Wow Eddie, this certainly sounds like a winner. This looks like it will be my first Timefactors watch, if I can get my name on the list when it comes out
Cheers,
Andy
Eddie, you can put me on the list even if there is no list yet. Any number if there will be numbers.

If there was a list, I can assure you that you would be on it. :lol:Originally Posted by dashiel

I figured with my PRS-20, a diver, a chrono and a dress watch I was all done watch buying for quite some time. After seeing the sketches of this watch and hearing it might be a reality, I guess I'll have to reconsider.
I wonder if they are worried that they don't really have the necessary expertise in working with silver and might make a mess of the cases?Originally Posted by swanbourne

Is that what is known as sterling silver?Originally Posted by swanbourne

We tend to call it "Continental Silver" in the UK, sterling silver is .925.Originally Posted by abraxas

This is my first post after reading this forum for quite some time. I have to say that I really like this CAF watch and I want one. Any number will be fine.
I don't know...................you spend years on the list and then it disappears?! :cry:Originally Posted by swanbourne

Ok, just to keep this, my second favorite type watch near the top of the forum...
Oh, since I wasn't on the original list (since I was not here until 2005) I would like to be added to the list (didn't even realize there was "a list" until I skimmed through this thread... didn't even realize the CAF was going to be LE).
BTW why make it LE. Now that Zeno isn't making his CAF styled watch anymore no one is. Heck, I would have bought Zeno's, but for that butt ugly dial.
Eddie, does Zeno have any extra cases? Maybe you could start a few prototype CAFs with those using 2824 - make them like the Lemanias and Eterna. In other words make the watch he should have made.
Just discovered this thread. Lovely watch. If the case could be made in silver it would certainly add a certain degree of style.
If this ever comes to fruition I would certainly like one what ever the number.
Has there been any news on this recently? :bounce:
Bring out the dead.....
Oh my, I wish this one would be reality soon :(

It took some time ... but it's finally DONE!
Zeno Carre with a new dial and hands.
RESULT!
That looks superb Viktor!

It is not final yet. The next dial will have numbers in Luminova.
Sure it is not as good as the CAF hommage drawing above, but I am quite enjoying this watch.
Finally, the Zeno CAF project is finished - numerals done by hand in Luminova
That is stunning Viktor!
A lovely watch. :bounce:
When do they appear on the Market?
Thank you.Originally Posted by ZIM
Three watches have been made and that's it. But I wonder when Longines will come with a reeissue. Or a silver case CAF watch shows up?
That's a beauty, well done!
