Bloody  , it's 17000,- allready, and it's butt ugly as well :) .
Well, some people must escape the credit crunch I guess.
Cheers,
Daddel.
Was reading another forum and saw this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0356102014 on there, if this proves to be genuine and matches up with the owners history then i can see the likes of Jedly1 selling a kidney :D
So how much will it raise, and will the auction end this time?

Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
We do love a good milSub scramble from time to time to break the monotony!!
:D
Wonder what it will fetch? I couldn't even guess at the final price.
I can see this timepiece has a history, but 17G with seven days to go? Why do these people want it so much?
Good lord
Is it "really" worth that?!

the reason why these pieces are so highly sought after is there are so very few left in good original condition .
a yes they are pretty much recession proof imho . hold onto it 10 yrs then see how much it is worth :)
its like everything else , everyone wants the hard to find stuff and even more so the impossible to find .

Ebay & paypal fees ? - I suspect an "off ebay" sale will be agreed before the auction end date :)
heading off to the airport, but a quick chime in...
it appears to be legit, have spoken to the seller who seems a decent bloke and is doing a the deal properly by the looks of it, the watch looks nice and very interesting with that story. probably lost its hands and bezel early in its life, which takes a lot of value, but will be a nice addition to someones collection regardless.(subject to an inspection)
there are already substantial offers on the table outside ebay, subject to inspections in the next few days, so it may just dissappear, and those offers are a long way above where it is on ebay.
and yeah if i wasnt leaving for OZ i'd be driving down to dorset now :)

So are you not sending a stand in to go and do the deal for you :D

and if I really upset the forum and say that the last set of hands I found cost me £15k, and £12k for a bezel.... you see what a balancing act it is to restore such a thing and it only usually makes sense to do it on a 5517 or double reefrence., usually its just easier to buy a full spec 5513 in the first place
the only other set i heard of a few month ago was more like £25k !!!!!
now that should make someone splutter out their morning coffee :)
and no i've left a cover fair bid that I see it at, but I expect it to exceed that by quite a way as someone gets a bit giddy.

please do, just shout if you find em !!!
but remember they have to be genuine ones, and yes you can tell :)

Yep, all over the keyboard, screen and desk
   £20K already
Could go for twice that amount. Incredible!
TTPS
And to think that when they were in service the following was the case !!!
"In 1980 I was serving on the Portsmouth bomb disposal team, one of my roles was team storeman, I had 4 milsubs ( Military issue Rolex submariners ) in one of the drawers for ages, I tried to get some of the other members of my team to wear them, no body was interested because they didnt look cool. You could buy a really cool looking Seiko back then for about £30. I eventually gave them back to the main store in Vernon. I know the whereabouts of just one of them. "
The above quote was taken from http://www.diving-watch.net :bom: :bom:
It's a nicely provenenced watch with that certificate and picture... it has the potential to crack £35,000.
That should keep an old soldier in beer & baccy for a year or two...
Good luck to the man!

Up to £23,300 and rising
As I have a scheme (as a sub-plot to Bob's world domination master scheme) to own one of these in years to come, I'm very interested in seeing where this goes. I think this will be an interesting indicator of whether the rare mil/dive watch market is really sagging or whether it's just the mid-range stuff that's temporarily lagging due to unfounded fears. Mike, please report back what you think of the final price!
Forgive the newb question but is Jedly1 saying that the hands and bezel have been replaced? And it still may make c£35k?!
Different world really - I could sell all my watches and replace them with a set of Milsub hands (based on Jedly's post), or swap my place abroad for a good complete example :(
One day...
£44,500 and still 13 hours to go
LOL yeah well into madness IMO :shock:Originally Posted by Rinaldo1711

Wow..........345 watchers. Wonder how many are just interested in seeing how much this one goes for.
Well I'm one and I would guess about 330 others - 10 bidders (individual) so far.Originally Posted by RLE

Although nicely provenenced, this is the "Plain Jane" of milSubs, someway down the pecking order in rarity and value.
A full-spec 5517 (with swords hands and 60 minute marker bezel) is top of the tree at around £100-120k  , followed by full-spec double reference 5513-5517 (a 5513 milSub with an additional 5517 stamping on one lug) for a modest £85-95k, then a full-spec 5513 at around £60-75k, and finally, a 5513 with mercedes hands and 15 minute marker bezel starting around £25k+. Good history, Rolex service paperwork, and the magic "Mr. Hudson Letter" can easily add £10k.
This result could mean a re-writing and re-valuation of the milSub market...
I'm watching with bated breath...

It's like everything, i think now you've got a bidding war, a few of the top rolex collectors going after one piece and it's a little bit more than just the watch now. If you have nearly 50k to spend on a watch then i really doubt you're in a world where you ever need to sell it, or worry about paying over the odds. As for the rarity, well i always wondered about milsubs, it's like comex, for me the romance is in the story behind the watch, if a milsub has no history then what is it, was it ever used, did it leave the stores, did it get used for anything more than training. With this watch you get a story with it, it went through the Falklands conflict, it was used quite a bit by a guy with commendations and so on.
Still, to me it's way over my head, but to those collecing this style of watch, it's a bit of history and a true grail.
My guess, about £55000- £60000.
The world is a crazy place that's for sure
£45,400 it is then
UK buyer with only a 34 rating hmmm.
I hope it's genuinely sold. :)

well landed in OZ a few hours ago after a fantastic week in malaysia ( no watch stuff whatsoever) and find the bidding in the stratosphere, as david says i hope the buyer doesnt get remorse or anything, but even though its less than full spec the provenance is quite nice and it will be a stunning piece in someones colection.
though bidder 9 seems a bit hmmm.
Even if the winner were to let him down, if what he says is true about all of the interest, visits for inspection, and offers; I think he should still get pretty close to that price.
Now at £45400.What is it with this model,I know its fairly rare but its not as though its in good condition.
Jed, could "hmmm" be the incredible bidder of Rolex vintage I think it is. :wink:Originally Posted by jedly1
