That isn’t strictly true though Ryan. He got past his man a couple of times but certainly wasn’t murdering him be any stretch or we’d have created more chances. He was completely anonymous in the second half, hardly got a kick. Bowen looked sharper and quicker when he came on and we almost scored from his first cross. There’s too much hype around Saka for me.

Foden looked poor because he was playing out of position. Southgate can’t turn him into a winger any
more than he can turn TAA into a midfield player. It’s a tournament, play people in their correct positions or they don’t play at all. For decades England managers have done this and it’s never worked - so I know, let’s keep doing it!

Would Italy play Chiesa at right back? Spain play Morata at CB? Germany play Musiala as a DCM? No of course they wouldn’t. They must laugh at us.

To be fair Kimmich has played RB for club and country for years now and only occasionally moved into CDM.

But the point is wrong. Foden has played out wide for City for more of his career than he has as a 10. Pep often played De Bruyne there or Alvarez.

The difference is each one of Peps players are drilled to know exactly what to do at all time. It's clear south gate gives no real instructions. So players look pretty lost out there.

Bellingham plays 10, then Foden drifts in to 10, then Kane comes deep into 10. He needs to tell these players what to do.

Saka second half v Serbia was nothing to do with tiredness- the Serbian just figured how to defend against him during the half time talk. He just didn’t give him the space.

Correct, I hadn't realised someone said he was tired.

So many top draw armchair managers on here, I'm only surprised Southgate hasn't come calling for your incisive input 😂

Remind me again how many times have members here commented on commentators commenting on Bellingham’s age.

No he's been injured and missed Arsenal's last game as well as England's friendlies. He ran out of juice. If PL's finest defenders can't figure out how to defend against him I suspect Serbia's back line won't either!

This was unfortunate to see. Turkey Georgia not a rivalry is expected to have kicked off necessarily. Noticeably there has been a lot of unsegregated crowds at the euros and not seen so much as a scuffle in any other game

Same team tonight. Saying nowt. Just remembered that in the last Euro semis we didn’t score from open play in 120 minutes then only had one shot on target in 120 minutes in the final.
Getting to that final has been a massive smokescreen over Southgate’s time. We’ve lost to the first top team we’ve played in every tournament.

Foden has played out of position because Pep knows he can be trusted in his system and players were performing better in his preferred role . No biggie when it’s KdB or Bernardo Silva in that role .
Foden has played as a 10 this season and has his best stats to date . He’s also performing incredibly well , definitely City’s most consistent player, Rodri aside .
He will be City’s 10 going forward once de Bruynes future is sorted .
He’s Englands most natural No 10 and should be played there . Bellingham would be a fantastic No 8 and Rice a defensive midfielder /No 6 . These three should form the basis of the midfield for this tournament . Gallagher , Bowen , Wharton etc will be given valuable playing time and should look forward to future competition.
I’ve no skin in this argument , couldn’t give a flying one about England but shoehorning players onto the pitch out of position rarely works . You only have to go back to the Lampard , Gerrard / Scholes situation to realise this .

Surprised the ref didn’t find a reason to chalk the Denmark goal off! Terrible refereeing

    Is he Benny from Bedford!

    Been saying that for years.

I’ve actually switched off the commentary. Shearer is nauseating.

Score a goal. Sit back. Be passive. No pressing. No urgency. Concede.

    Rinse and repeat.

We are the most boring team in the tournament. We’re getting passed to death here. We’re not going to win the thing so just go out in the groups so Southgate gets the bullet sooner.

    I was thinking the same.

They look simply devoid of any plan.

They’re at the level Scotland were against Germany. Yes, that bad.

Don’t panic. There is the half time Southgate pep talk to come, and some inspired substitutions.

  33. #283
We’ll see Southgate’s tactical nous and a change. Thump it up and chase!

Can you imagine Southgate at half time? “Inside voices please. Use your words”.

All joking aside it’s quite easy. Just don’t sit back and wait for Denmark to attack you. Cos they will. Bizarre system - as Jim said it’s almost as dumb as Scotland’s system (or lack of) v Germany.

Looks like Foden was following Southgate’s instructions and anonymous. Then, thought, stuff this and went for it. Three decent direct runs at them. Iffy finishing, but he went for it. Hoik off TAA, bring on a left sided player and let Foden off the leash.

Absolutely this.... The worst thing England can ever do is score early on. For as long as I can remember they just try to hang onto that goal. So predictable but it makes for an interesting second half.

Sorry but this game shows Southgate is clueless, we are playing an alien way of playing!
All our players apart from Kane play instant press & dynamic fast football.
We have no out players our number 9’s playing CH
