No picture but saw "10000" on a Black (new model) Range Rover near Marble Arch on Friday night.

From the internet but the funniest plate I’ve seen
I made ref to this number earlier in the thread but am posting to add pic.
We looked after this car in the 80s - one of my all time favs.
Sort of. It's an XKSS. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_XKSS
Indeed it is - #XKSS 707 .
Same owner had a D-Type as well , ex- Ecurie Ecosse
Also a nice XK120 with an equally appropriate registration
A Porsche went pas the other day with the plate ETH1C, probably belongs to a lawyer????
Saw a car on the M5 yesterday OL15 TEN, spaced as O LISTEN.
Possibly an audiologist. Or the pub bore.
A red Ferrari followed me today 8 SE. Tiny plate on the front but it did look cool.😎
Just in case you haven’t seen it but genius….

The plate I got with my new bike last year suits me as well as any plate could, so I'd like to take it with me when I next get a bike. I can't find the answer to this on the DVLA site.
If my next bike was also new, I guess the dealers could simply ask the DVLA for a 2023 plate for the bike I was trading in, instead of one for the new bike?
If the next bike was used, how could I get a 2023 plate for the one I was selling?
I know not of those things but if your current bike was issued with that plate, isn’t it stuck with it for the rest of its life?

This tells you what you need to do
https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehi...ate-number-off
You take the number off by putting it "on retention", and are issued with a new number for your existing bike. Remember to tell your insurer the reg has changed.
If you buy a new bike, you can get the dealer to register it using the number on the retention certificate or, if you buy used, use the retention certificate to put the number on the new (to you) bike.
It's worth getting the dealer to do all this at the point of exchange though if they are willing as, though you'll still have to pay the Ł80 fee, typically you'll avoid the cost of a numberplate and 2 reg changes with the insurance company which could mount up to about the same
I had looked at that page, but it days "Your original number plate will usually be reassigned to your vehicle automatically, if your application is successful."
Since its the original number that I want to keep, that's why I came to ask here.
As I understand it :-
1. Prev. post is correct. You can either put the old number on retention or have it t/f immediately to another (same age/younger) vehicle.
2. Either way DVLA will issue your existing vehicle with a "new" ( age related ) number
3 The replacement number itself may have restrictions as to further assignation - if so these will be stated as a note on the v5.
Caveat - above is from experience only and without looking at the rules - happy to be corrected
I discovered point 3 when I wondered why you couldn't buy a pre-'62 bike - sell the number , wait for a replacement and then start all over again.
DVLA had thought of that - worst luck!
So the DVLA will identify my having created a registration vacuum and will automatically dig up some random unused 2023 plate? Smashing. Cheers :)
That is if you decide to put a number that's on retention onto a vehicle. The number that gets displaced doesn't go on to retention, it kind of disappears.
When you then decide to take that number back off, the number re-issued by the DVLA will likely be the original for the vehicle.
This doesn't apply in your case.
Scenario 1 (as per the example you quote)
Lets say you have a bike bought with AB12 CDE and splash out on DE12 AMF. You receive the retention cert in the post for DE12 AMF. When you apply that to the bike, AB12 CDE disappears.
Then a couple of years later you put DE12 AMF onto retention, you pay the Ł80 fee and get a retention cert for DE12 AMF. The DVLA issue you back AB12 CDE.
Scenario 2 (what you want to achieve)
You buy a bike with AB12 CDE on it and decide you like that. At a later point you put AB12 CDE onto retention, you pay the Ł80 fee and get a retention cert for AB12 CDE. The DVLA issue a brand new age related number you'll not have seen before, maybe FG12 HJK.
That way you retain the AB12 CDE to use on another vehicle

There is a young lad with a beemer working on a building site near me. His reg reads “Woodie” somehow. But most striking is the letters, just like above “gel raised” . His must be 10/15 mm raised. I thought at first he had intentionally ordered two of each and laminated one to another. It look ok ish from a distance but close up its like a kids bumper car!
Made me laugh (not my photo)

I see a grey Lamborghini Urus quite regularly with MU53ELL. I thought perhaps a fishmonger, but it’s often parked outside a boxing club.
