Too early to comment on the timekeeping? Certina offer great value for money.

    No problem at all. :)

It’s a lovely watch. I initially purchased the black version when the model was first released at the beginning of the year, that’s lovely too. The only thing I didn’t originally like about this limited edition Orange dialed model was the “limited edition” text on the dial. But now I have it, the text doesn’t bother me at all.

The only negative, (for me personally) is the stock straps that the watches are supplied with, it’s either a vented rubber strap, (very similar to the modern Seiko Z22) or a 2 piece black canvas strap.

I’ve just purchased this tapering “Isofrane style” vulcanised rubber strap for it, which I think will complement the watch perfectly :

I’ll post a few images of the watch on the strap when it arrives.

^^^ My Helson Turtle Mango came with a heavy mesh strap that suits it really well, surprised that Certina don't supply one.

That looks fantastic! I was considering a mesh, but I do like a rubber strap on my dive watches. Strapcode sell a really nice tapering mesh, I was very tempted. Now I have seen your Helson, I think I may have to order that mesh bracelet now too! :)

Looks good Karl. I’ve been considering one of these too.
I had one of the early 2000s re-issue DS3 (LE of 1888 I think) that had a fairly unattractive dial and hands. I had it fitted with a MKll ProPlof dial and handset that was a massive improvement. I sold it to another forum member who AFAIK refitted the original. This edition looks slimmer than the previous LE - does anyone know how they compare?

    Thanks Tom. :)

I had one of those 2000’s previous re-additions too.

I didn’t change the dial on mine, but the the previous owner did install a Plopfof handset to the watch.

No wrists shots of that unfortunately, but I do have a wrist shot of it on my (now deceased) cat, Sergant-Hercules (R.I.P) :

The new Certina PH1000 re-issue is approximately 14mm high, so around 4mm thinner than the original and the 2000’s re-addition, which both had a thickness of 18mm.

But height aside, all versions seem to wear and look almost identical on the wrist.

I had one of those SBGX343 models. I seem to recall I sold it to Walter, however I then bought it back. I then went on holiday to Bucharest and sold it to Wooster. I think it ended up with Raffe. I miss it!

I had this one before, for sure - the SBGX293. (A few slight differences, but not many!)

I also had the silver-dialled model, the SBGX091, but as with all silver dial watches, I can't read them without my glasses!

(Sidebar - I took the silver one to the Qatari Seiko distributor, where I'd gotten to know the technician there. He changed the battery, and I watched, and it was fun. Click Here!

That 091 is fantastic but seemingly hard to come by these days.

After much researching, searching and prevarication, I finally bought this from a seller in Japan (ginzarasin).

I had originally wanted a 79160 but ultimately decided the 79180 had a more modern look than the black Bakelite bezel of the '60.

From buying to arriving at my door was six days with tracking all the way. The condition of the watch is very good and comes with original Tudor box and punched papers. The bracelet has plenty of extra links and is not stretched or marked.

HMRC seems to have charged £65 more than I was expecting, am just waiting for the final invoice from Fedex so I can see how they arrived at their figure. Fedex handling charge was a reasonable £24. In total, the watch cost £5,501, which is considerably cheaper than I have seen these models advertised for, on the rare occasions they come up for sale in the UK.

Thanks to Helidoc (Dave) who answered a number of questions I had about his recent watch purchase from Japan. Good forum spirit

Went and actually tried on both kinds today at 2 different shops and I have to say they really wear well on the wrist. I thought there was no way I’d get the orange one ahead of the black but I really liked it. Still considering!

Owned already several in stainless steel and titanium, black and blue limited edition. Stupidly sold them all. Really rare to find nowadays. Finally found one 2006 full set of the very first production year with chronometer calibre in nice condition. What a beauty. What a lume. And what a weight…

I love it, this is my second as I already have the blue one on the bracelet. With the silver one I'm tempted to get the black leather with perforations and red stitching with red sides to the strap.

    Grail Alert!

Having been on the lookout for one of these for as long as I can remember, I picked up this Zenith El Primero Rainbow "Mango" this morning.

Zenith only made 470 of these, so they don't come up for sale very often. I couldn't believe my luck when this one came up fairly local to me.
It's a full set in fabulous condition having been cherished by it's one previous owner.

I expect this will get a lot or wrist time over the summer!

I'll post a wrist shot in the Friday thread.
