    Network cable

I need to run some network cable from the house to the garden room. Builder said he has a load of CAT5E that I can have gratis. Dont really want to run it again, so what spec do I really need CAT6E, 7 or even 8.

What do you want to do and what is the distance? Likely CAT5E is fine.

For my own needs, I'd be happy enough with CAT5 unless there's likely to be excessive interference. For a short run you should get gigabit.

Use cat 6e for better bandwidth.

A 300m drum of Cat6 is £120 from Screwfix, or £50 for 100m. Has to be worth it for a bit of future proofing?

Remember, 4MB of RAM is all a personal computer will ever need.

It’s about a 30m run, it will be used for steaming and office duties ( teams etc)

Teams limits bandwidth - you will never get anywhere near the limit of that connection.

Run a length of thin polypropylene cord messenger down the conduit too and tie off a couple of loops at either end.

If you ever want to run something else down there……………….

Regardless which you choose, best advice is to rub the cable in a conduit as mentioned.

If needed you could fish another cable through or replace it.

    Network cable

Slight bump on this, is cat 6E really a thing? I can find 6a and 6 shielded. No one really seems to to list 6E in long 40m lengths

    Was looking at getting this
