Dogs: poor training and laziness. Take your dogs out and they won’t poop your lawn (and walking the dogs is good for the soul).
Robot mowers may deprive you of the pleasure but they are also very good for your lawn as the tiny bits cut are small enough to remain unseen yet re-fertilise your soil. Downside is they don’t give weeds a chance to blossom (or should that be bloom?) and therefore deprive pollinators from a food source.

What a beautiful garden regardless of what's mowing it.
What are you on about? I’ve trained mine to go in the garden…. My boys and one girl go for miles every every day come rain or shine…. Baxter is laying next to me looking rather pooped after his Saturday stroll
I suspect you may know more about dogs than me, but I don’t know of any dogs who don’t go for a dump in the garden when nature calls? It doesn’t take that much effort to clean it up…. Granted it’s not the most pleasant job!
I knew the regular little off cuts were supposed to be good for keeping it looking nice….
Anyway…. Aren’t they about to start promoting no mow May? It’s all very confusing
Sorry I didn't want to sound flippant. It's quite easy to train a dog to pee on command (great when going for a long drive) and to poo at regular(ish) times. Just like a human, it's easier to start early but old dogs learn tricks.
During the walk is the ideal time, because the dog is excited by the walk; You still have the same unpleasant job to pick it up, though. "Accidents" will happen if you change his food brutally, but that's one you can't pick up anyway...

I have one and have dogs, I just turn off the auto timer and send it out manually via the app a couple of times a week after I've done a dog egg sweep, though that only works if your garden is small enough and mower big enough to cope a couple of times a week rather than having to run a low spec one almost constantly to cover a big lawn

Reading this all with interest, I’ve ran an underground cable out from a new build with this in mind, grass down last week so need to make a decision soon! Space is about 600sqm (I think) with slopes down toward the house and I’m thinking Husky is the one to go for?
This is the model I’d earmarked

this one does my lawn of 280 square meters with ease. Only has the bluetooth app not wifi but it's pretty reliable. My 4th year with it.
Just looked 1 year. Let's see how it does.

Thanks,l for the suggestion. I’m going to redo the base in the next weekend or two and if that doesn’t work check the warranty. Reassuring to know I could just have it badly wired or have a dud.
Should be a fun task seeing as though I put him under the bench. Doesn’t seem to have docked from yesterday either so definitely needs doing.
Little bump on this thread now the suns out.
I finally have a garden just about big enough to justify a robot and embrace this thread, it's about 200 m2 - does anyone want to throw any new names into the ring or confirm their previous recommendations for the 2024 season?
Also, probably a stupid question, but where some mowers say they have wifi do you need your wifi to cover the garden or is that just for set up?
I recently (3 weeks ago) got a Stiga A750 installed. It’s GPS so no wires to install.
Installed by the supplier which I believe all Stiga retailers do as part of the price
It’s been great so far, and the app is really easy to use. I have a few sharp banks that it was struggling with if it was raining, so I was able to add them as “obstacles” that I can remove again if I wish, without having to remap the whole garden
You can choose from several cut patterns, cut height and cut schedules all within the app
You need 4G availability, and a clear view of the sky for the GPS station to see straight up. The robot can work under tree cover without issue
Very impressed so far
I do like the look of the Landroid, and having an app. At present it looks like the landroid on amazon is similar to what I could get a husq 105 for from a local supplier. From the thread, husq sounds like the brand to go for, but less bells and whistles - anyone else got the 105?
I was so keen to get one, but Mabel said I wasn’t allowed
Quite like this one

Can they avoid poo flinging yet? I’m pretty good at spotting any presents quickly on the lawn but don’t know if the robomow will plough through..

I was all set to get one and my accountant even agreed to allow it through as a business expense but I've gotten used to using a conventional mower in my new garden and there's something really therapeutic about cutting the grass on a Sunday whilst listening to a podcast. Obviously the weather helps. For now I'm sticking with the Flymo.
PSA on an offer Husqvarna have for a free battery trimmer when you buy a mower https://husqvarna-perfectgreenteam.uk/
Pal of mine - just back in Aberdeenshire after 3wks away, and his Huskvarna machine has coped completely with his 3 acre paddock +300sqM around his greenouse.
It wouldn't cope with 3acres in south of England, but certainly 1+ acre managable. It is running/charging a max of 14hrs each day to cut that.
Questions on boundary wire laying, I have got myself a Husqvarna but maybe the model doesn't matter.
1. When people say throughout the thread about leaving a bit of wire in the corners to give you slack in case of a break, are you literally doing a couple of loops which are then also buried?
2. The lawn has a wide brick edging going all the way around it, and I'd prefer to put the base on this instead of straight on the grass. Has anyone done this and what do you do about the boundary wire?
I would try to find a proffesional installer. Whilst it’s easy enough to peg out your boundary wire, it can be a bit of a pain with breakages in the wire.
When I purchased my Husq’, the retailer charge around £150 to install and commission. He had a sort of cultivator that cut a thin 6” trench in the grass, which automatically played the wire in it.
