Rover interior leather looks to be in good condition.....cost of replacement would be hide-eous
Seriously, it's a super old thing.
An all-British scene today in the shop.
On one ramp, the Austin Healey I've shown before. Finally receiving its improved steering rack. Thanks to a member here! One of the mechanics was busy getting it in.
On the other ramp, Britain's finest: Rover P5B Saloon (sadly not the Coupe).
A well-sorted car, and the ownership of this car goes way way back; one owner since nearly-new. It's clear that the owner never cut corners when it came to maintenance. And that shows. Apart from a nasty waterpump, all works perfectly on the car. Even it's biggest adversary: rust is tackled before it became a problem. The car was restored twice already. Funny thing: the owner told us that the last restoration was relatively cheap.... simply because he anticipated that upcoming 'event' and had it restored before it was too late for some parts or metal.
And, even today, everything comes off easily. Maintenance is a walk in the park! This is a car I won't having it in my garage... pref. a P5B Coupe in Admiralty Blue with Silver Birch roof. Although this one with the folding roof is an interesting proposition as well!

That Rover is fabulous - thanks for posting :)
That Rover is gorgeous! Always wanted an old Rover like that. Almost bought one a long time ago when they were relatively cheap but it would have needed serious work.
That one is a lovely example.
My favourite ever Rover the P5b
I had the original P5 as a company vehicle when I used to work for a living. It was without doubt the most comfortable car I have ever owned.
If I didn't have a warehouseful of Riley spare parts I would have another P5 like a shot.
BIL has a coupe in blue with a vinyl roof (along with a couple of mk1 Granadas). It’s a lovely car, I’d happily have one or even a saloon. I also like the P6 and wouldn’t mind one of those either.
Edit : his is nowhere near as good as the one in the photos and would certainly benefit from a few months in Menno’s garage!

This Rover is indeed 'What you see is what you get!' This car (pic) oozes quality and it is really a magnificent car. The guys in the shop are really happy with this car. Clean, well-taken care of, everything unbolts easily. And that V8 mumbling away when idling...
When you consider a P5B: buy/read Des Hammill's book on Tuning these V8s. In the book there's an interesting chapter on oil pressure (and the lack of). These engines suffer more from a high(er) oil pressure than a low-ish one. Also in Hammill's book: look what the oil pressure gauge does when your rev the engine: a quick, sharp rise of the pressure is good. A sluggish rise of the pressure is a sign of a potentially knackered engine. We use fine quality 20W50 from Penrite with sufficient amounts of Zinc.
This is a heavy car. When buying one, pay attention to the underpinnings: bushes, rubbers. Most cars had a sheltered life/not thrashed; but the weight of the car plays a big role when it comes to the state of these rubber items. Buying a P5B with bills to confirm the recent replacement of the bushes, is a recommendation.
I had never realised the instruments were quite so ‘binacle-like’.
That Rover is gorgeous. A real Gentleman's conveyance!
My Uncle had a black one many years ago.
Cheers,
Neil.
Love the Rover - is it really not a Coupé?
It looks like one to me, and seems to have the distinctive Coupé badge on the rear.
D@mn I've walked around the car two mornings in a row! I know I was busy with something else, but I had pea-soup in my eyes (translated Dutch expression).
That makes me think: are Coupes always two-tone? And this one not?
Coupé = rev counter; saloon = revcounterless iirc.
The side windows are the biggest giveaway. Pics from Wikipedia:
Well, the idea of Coupes being two-toned-except-the-one-in-shop is out of the window then. No excuse for my pea-soup eyesight…
And there was I thinking that the very definition of a coupé was a car with 2 doors...

What a thing of beauty for those that appreciate the old P5s

Beautiful. Great pictures but sadly they cannot show how comfortable these seats are. The owner of the Rover I posted above has a few Jags as well and he rates the Rover seats higher than the Jaguar seats. Not only for 'trying on' in the showroom but also during longer trips.
