He probably used a blue biro to fill in the registration form.
Hi was speaking to someone today on Facebook who I just sold a watch to about this forum on whether he was a member and he said he has been trying to join for 4 years and what process is involved
I said I didn’t have a clue as it wasn’t a problem when I joined anyone know what’s changed and how he could join?
He probably used a blue biro to fill in the registration form.

Biro. There’s your problem. Only a fountain pen for TZ, no? Or a quill and ink.
When I registered way back in the day and then forgot to actually start posting it was still just a case of filling in the form and clicking the button but when I logged out and looked there was a message saying registration was currently disabled due to a high volume of bogus registration attempts. Presumably Eddie has been having trouble with spammers!
It's like a Rolex dealership. You'll be put on the list and just await the call.
I don’t believe new members can join at the moment and this has been like this for a while.
I think it has something to do with bots
This could be the reason why SC is becoming more and more difficult to move stuff on as there’s no new blood coming in.
Just my opinion of course.

15 new members in the last 12 months. Yikes.
Very possibly true. Totally non scientific but it seems to me that a number of sections of the forum are quietly 'withering on the vine', and many more would be in trouble without a small corps of regular contributors.
With no new members coming in there must be a sort of natural wastage going on, people losing interest, getting pissed off, dying, etc etc.
Any suggestions for what our host might be thinking about rather some poor damsel's inability to join the membership of an online forum?
I've been here less than five years, but in that time the forum appears to have become markedly quieter.
I wonder if the move from laptops to smartphones plays a part? I.e. the change from active participatory membership to passive consumption, seems to be the case with all forms of social media.
I bought something from Timefactors, and in the receipt email, asked nicely if I could also be added to the forum
Was this bloke on Facebook called Trigger by any chance?
One in one out?
New sign ups are currently disabled:

"Sorry, due to the high number of bogus registration attempts registration has been temporarily disabled by the administrator."
Not sure if this is covered elsewhere, but I’ve barely posted in years because the Tapatalk app is near unusable on my iPad. If others have the same problem I have with Tapatalk, I can see them giving up before getting to the stage of trying to register.

Promise Eddie to buy all the jackets, shoes, EDC knives and brace of Purdeys that ever come up. (best of health Eddie - hope recovery is progressing)
why use the app? just use the browser, ignore all "it would be better in...."
As I understand it, Eddie has much more to deal with right now than the matter of forum registrations.
When he is recovered it would be good if there was a mechanism for new enthusiasts to join, as without this the forum will look eventually wither and die. That would be an enormous shame for what is the UK’s best watch forum.
Maybe one option for our leader would be to delegate to some trusted moderators.
