A new one for me this evening. A bit sweet and sickly.
After cooking all day (the oven has been on for eight hours) I feel I deserve one of these.
Oh and I have finished my wrapping with four hours to spare. Result.

Nothing loopy about it - decent IPA in my book!
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
A good weekend leading up to today. Here’s the ones I enjoyed the most.
Burning Sky Beacon. Possibly my favourite UK brewery, their pale ales are superb.
My favourite Yorkshire brewery, I love this and their Pale Ale.
I drank a whole bunch of Harvey’s Best growing up on the East Kent / Sussex borders. This was lovely. A traditional-style IPA, punchy ABV at 6.5% with loads of hoppy, malty favours.
More Burning Sky. A Belgian style pale ale, brewed in collaboration with the excellent Brasserie De La Seine in Brussels.
Quiet Storm - Thornbridge’s single hop series - has been hit ‘n miss. This was a hit.
Another hit, £2 a 500ml bottle for Budvar’s dark lager from Ocado. Belting pint that.
Today’s first. Another Burning Sky pale ale, brewed with New Zealand hops. It’s light, crisp, fruity with hints of white grapes. Perfect pairing with smoked salmon blini.
Few of ones had over festive period.
Guy from Sierra Nevada over visiting Kirkstall Brewery so Steve the owner who was importer of their beers took the opportunity to do a colab , liked it , not too hoppy for me , so had two - Old Kings Arms.
Christmas Eve , called in Granville’s had the Kirkstall
and then the Wilde Child.
Some at home Christmas Day
Had walk with dogs today and called at The Three Swords and had these.

Loving the dark beer selections gents, chapeau!
New Years Eve and not mucking about. Straight in with my favourite beer from one of my top UK breweries. Burning Sky’s Saison Anniversaire. The label explains the why.
For mixed fermentation beers, absolutely they are no.1 for me. Based in a barn in Firle, East Sussex they make the most accomplished beers of all types. Whatever style you like I encourage you to try them if you haven’t before but get the opportunity to do so. From pale ales to big old stouts and porters via numerous Belgian styles, IPA’s and the occasional DIPA, their execution is usually exemplary.
Spotted Cow from New Glarus

Happy New Year!
Had a couple of these tonight.
Still in the run up to Xmas here…
Back to my post work pint routine

Love Siren stouts. That sounds great. Only ever had Broken Dream on cask, which was epic!
My BIL brought a case of this around on Christmas Day and I have been enjoying it ever since. I had forgotten how drinkable Doombar is. I've been drinking ale from bottles for so long that I have become a bit snobbish about beer in tins. This has brought me back down to earth.

Met my niece and family in York today. Had lunch here:
https://brewyork.co.uk/
Brew York is a brewery making a range of beers. I had the Milk Stout, very chocolate and vanilla and very drinkable. Others in the group had a session IPA and their bitter. All really nice. Thoroughly recommend a visit.
Followed this up with a visit to my favourite alcohol retailer in York and popped a few favourites into the bag:

Good to support the independent brewers

Black Sheep's Riggwelter. At 5.7% but not very richly flavoured, it hasn't the stuffing to go with the thrust. Won't be trying this again.
Few from Friday , went into Whitby and called in The Waiting Room, pint of Five Points Railway Porter then had Titanic Plum Porter in Abbey Wharfe (and a burger) Called at The Green Dragon and picked up a few cans to have back in Sleights.

Out round Horsforth, called at Horsforth Brewery and a pint of Trinity then next door to The Forge
for a pint of White Rat. Then to Hop Shack where had a 1/2 of Tartarus Witch gingerbread stout.
Then down to Three Swords for a Sierra Nevada Embargo and then Sierra Nevada Knightro Irish Stout and finished by sharing a Sierra Bigfoot barley wine!

A pint of Settle Brewery's milk stout, 4.5% but a properly heavy beer. Very nice.

First visit to The Coach & Horses, Wellington St Covent Garden for what is, so I’m told, one of the best pints of Guinness in the capital. Almost everyone in there drinking G and I can see why. Only had time for one but I could’ve easily necked three or four.
At home the two stand-outs so far this week have been Tree IPA from Duration…
… and this epic Vatted Porter from Burning Sky. I might have to get some more of this it was so good.
Tryanuary’s going well. 17 new beers so far vs my target of 31. Off to Antwerp next weekend so I should easily be able to hit the goal!
Take 2 , Turks Head ( Whitelock’s) Brew York S’mores Tonkoko and Fish Finger butty.

Called in Granville’s on way home , Kirkstall Mitigating Circumstances hazy pale
And then The Tavern for the Horsforth North is Ace

Aldi Coffee Stout. Big and bold. Would recommend if you like coffee and stout!
Sent through the ether by diddling with radio waves
Verdant’s annual hype juice time. Putty 2024, Double IPA.
I have three left from my Beavertown advent calendar.
Honestly these guys can do no wrong in my eyes, the limited edition red IPA they released (Saint Neckolas) is probably the best thing I've tasted... I would bathe in that stuff!
Anyway, as much as I love their lighter stuff I just can't get on with Stout and Porter, it doesn't go down well.
Anybody want these? I don't think you can even buy them - all limited edition and short productions, used to fill up the advent calendar with unusual beers.
S-presso coffee stout, Nebular Nectar American Brown Ale and Dark Matter London Porter.

I’m on broken dreams again …

That’s a nice gesture and has given me an idea. I kind of agree with you, their stouts can be a bit strange, their smoked porter is drinkable as a single can but by the end I am fed up with it.
What about a beer swap? If we find a lesser seen beer we like and others would like to try it we swap for another they may have?

Called in Granville’s ( £3 cask Wednesday!) and the Titanic Plum Porter Grand Reserve on! so had to have it , bit richer taste with the port infusion, and then the North Brewing Vanishing Point pale.

Felt like a stout tonight so I thought I'd try this:
For a flavoured beer it is drinkable but won't be buying again.
This on the other hand:
Much more enjoyable.
For me is going to be another Hoegaarden. For some reason I keep going back to this.
This on the other hand: Maldon Mighty Oak........
Is also absolutely wonderful on Draft, Our Local has had it and it didn't last long! Cheers, John B4
Tonight I have sampled a few local, Canadian IPAs.
No pics - but an interesting selection so far.
If I can remember - I’l post the names.
